Ships The Clipper makes a great core miner!

Tonight I finally got to try core mining after getting back from a big exploration jaunt. On the advice of Down to Earth Astronomy I tried the Imperial Clipper (very similar to his recommended build) which I outfitted thusly:

This is the first time I ever bothered to build an Imperial Clipper. I've had a Cutter for a while but until now the Clipper just wasn't on my radar. What a blast! I love this ship! Core mining is awesome as well. 170MCr on my first evening doing this; all of it will go to my Prismatic Shield fund

Does this give the Clipper a new lease on life now or what? It is crazy fast with the G5 DD's and it is very agile for a large ship. 128 tons of cargo is just about perfect for these mining runs. Also, the medium hardpoints aren't too bad for the abrasion blaster and the seismic chargers. I am certain the Kraits are a good miners too, but I think the Imperial Clipper has a really great niche as a core miner.

You picked the best possible ship for mining in open, as you can run away from any CMDR pirate ships (Only another Clipper would keep pace with you). I mine in a Krait Phantom and although my configuration on it only has 104 tons of cargo, it has the capability of boosting to 591 fully loaded, great jump range, and can land in outposts where the best sell prices are more often than not.

I definitely agree. The Clipper has always been one of my favorite ships; It's just fun to fly. Unfortunately, I didn't have a "practical" reason to fly it. Now, it's my go-to ship for core mining and I'm having a blast with it again.

Recently I do a lot of powerplay delivery stuff, trading and mining. Everything in my trader/miner Clipper. 224 of cargo space, 600 m/s of boost speed. Clipper combines cost effectiveness, safety, internal space, decent cargo hold and splendorous Imperial STYLE I Also do enjoy working in FDS. A bit different pair of shoes, smaller cargo space yet tanky as hell which allows you to survive a bombardment while you prepare a jump after being interdicted. Great miner as well.
