The Clipper. Not sure what all the fuss is about...

So I just brought a Clipper, based on people's opinions of it.
I don't really like the styling of it, but I spend 99% of the time in the cockpit anyway.

So I immediately A rated the thing, spend around 100m CR on it.

Result?

I still prefer my Python. Lol

Other than the Clipper being ridiculously fast, it has nothing else on my Python.
Hmm.

Just on the way to Deciat now to modify the FSD, but I'm kinda inclined to just sell it. Lol
It doesn't seem to serve a purpose.

Oh well, atleast now I know. Lol

The main thing it has going for it is the fun factor. There's nothing else in the game quite as thrilling to land as a Clipper, try it at a CG, drop out of super cruise hit boost and power slide through the mail slot at silly speed. Wheeeeeeeee!

You don’t really go to the clipper having flown a python expecting a real upgrade, unless you want a ship capable of escaping quickly. While still a decent ship for its price bracket the clipper is half the price of the python. It has an inferior power plant and capacitor, poor weapon placement, and also requires a large landing pad rather than the medium of the python.

I like the Clipper for mining because of it's class 7 cargo rack. For anything else is just useless, worse jumprange, worse hardpoints only appearance and speed are the good things.

I just realised... I don't own a Clipper.
I just checked Inara. It's the highest value ship I don't own.... it never really appealed to me.
I even have a Cobra MK4 and Viper MK4.... heck I even have a Keelback lurking around somewhere...

Yeah.... I had a Clipper back in the day. Pimped it out with a paint scheme and custom HUD colors. Danced around Pythons, ran away from whatever I didnt like. Man, she was cherry.

The only downside to her were her shields. And landing. She was a pig while landing.... drifting all over the place.

Then other ships showed up. Better ships. Then engineers showed up and now everyone could be made fast and more agile.

But if you give her the full engineer treatment, get her shields up, make her the fastest you can... she might might surprise you and you might just fall in love.

I fly my beloved Vulture that is engineered to the gills. 1100 shields, 850 armor, 23 ly range, guns that strip shields stupid fast and can jet away at 475.... but for all that I still look back in my time with the clipper as some of my best times.

I might hang on to it.
I don't really have anything to spend money on, so it can sit somewhere with my other unused ships. Lol
Maybe it can be a buddy for my Anaconda I never fly.

I have 2 Pythons.
One Combat class (Tactical Grey 1100mj shields, 450ms death machine), the other Explorer class(White, 35ly range, 350ms, so cool running it can charge it's FSD while scooping!). Between them, I can do any job I need. Lol

The problem is ...

clipper was good for speed and ramming. But has always a poor shield for its size and bad weapon position.

But, even if you engineer it at max hull...your canopy with explode quick fast. Maybe with the new module reinforcement, it is better but for sure, i tested it few month ago...and I was desperate.

Currently, I can't use it against IA because of missiles and splash damage...

I really would love the clipper be a medium sized ship with better weapon position. But we can't change...

Would love a Clipper. Sadly, can't rep with Empire.

Nothing I do in Empire systems increases my rank. Nothing. Been stuck at Master for months. Bounties, Discovery data, missions with Empire factions...Nothing works.

Numbers...maneuverability...speed...yadda yadda yadda

You get a ship b/c you like flying them. For whatever reasons, it doesn't matter. I've had my Clipper since the day we could buy them (well, a couple days...short on credits back then). A rated and engineered to the nines...I can hang out in a haz rez for several hours (even after my ammo is depleted) and just rake in the bounties. Would other ships be better or more efficient? Probably. I tried the Python for a good while...ended up selling it b/c I hate the feel of the ship. No other reasons.

Obviously, this sort of logic does not apply to the dedicated PvP player.

Clipper was the bomb before the likes of Engineer and Cutter showed up, you probably read outdated praises on the Clipper.

I agree.

The clipper was flat out my favorite ship in the game. Then engineers showed up, and the python completely replaced it. It's really sad, such a sweet looking ship too.

Give the clipper retractable side pods and the ability to land on medium pads. Problem solved.

The fuss?

It's fun to fly (for me at least) and it cost 40Milllion+ less than the Python (price is irrelevant for some)

I like my Clipper, it's a bit of a pointless ship in terms of others that cover similar roles but I still love the styling and the speed is good too. I used it for some passenger missions recently, I figure my passengers will appreciate the aesthetics too. It's also pretty handy if you need to get out of dodge quickly.

I finally got my rank and creds high enough to purchase my own Clipper yesterday. Aesthetically is it amazing, damn sight cheaper than similarly spec'ed ships too.

Did enter into the ownership knowing it's limitations, but I simply cannot overstate how much docking at outposts in neglected...

Also, for its size, it has a woefully small fuel tank, meaning you'll absolutely need a fuel scoop or secondary tanks to make even average length trips, using up vital compartment slots

I loved my Clipper. It's a beautiful ship. Pretty good for Exploration once you've RNGineered it...

You do know FD have a support team you can contact for difficulties like this?

On topic, Clipper is good for some things, but nowhere near as versatile as a Python.

Its good at running, its ok for mining, its a damn good exploration ship with an extra fuel tank slapped on it. For combat i found it horrendous. Huge hitbox combined with weak (for its size) shields. I'm sure some people use it effectively in combat, but its not great for it. A bit like using an Asp for combat... doable, but.... why?
