The Cobra Mk5 - A Step Forward, But Still Missing the Big Picture

I was excited to see Frontier continue evolving the Cobra line with the Mk5, and on paper it's certainly a capable ship. The improved jump range, hardpoint layout and multicrew functionality are all welcome additions that make it a versatile option.

However, I can't help but feel like we're still missing something fundamental - the ability to truly interact with our ships. While the new cockpit design looks great, we're still locked into the same static pilot perspective we've had for years. Every ship's dashboard may look different, but they all funnel us into the same UI systems without any physical interaction.

The multicrew seats highlight this issue. Having friends join is fun in theory, but without being able to move through the ship or interact meaningfully with different stations, it still feels limited compared to what could be. Other space games have shown how immersive ship interiors can be, and after all this time it's disappointing we still can't walk around even small ships like the Cobra.

I don't want to dismiss the work that's gone into the Mk5 - it's clearly a well-balanced ship that many commanders will enjoy flying. But I hope Frontier will consider expanding beyond cockpit-focused gameplay in future updates. The foundation is there with multicrew and Fleet Carriers - imagine how much more engaging it would be if we could actually move through our ships, perform manual repairs, or interact with engineering systems directly.

The Cobra Mk5 is a solid addition, but I hope it represents one of the last ships we see before Frontier tackles the bigger question of ship interactivity. What do others think - am I alone in wanting more physical interaction with our vessels?

P.S. "I'm sharing these thoughts in good faith, but due to past experiences with unconstructive responses, I won't be engaging further in this thread. I've said my piece and will let the discussion continue without me. Fly safe, commanders."

Very unlikely. It would require additional development that would lean heavily on gameplay assets from Odyssey and as that did not go well for them, the phrase, "once bitten, twice shy" comes to mind.

As they say theory sounds a wonderful place I would like to visit it sometime.

Interiors and gameplay other than a corridor shooter to repel borders would be a nice addition once all the exterior stuff in ED is finished. But having read several huge threads about the ideas I would say now is not the time.

I have to agree, FD has too much to fix with Trailblazers and PP.

Interactive interiors are very cool, probably. First thins in my to-do list would be:
  • in Mandalay to un-glue that damn small sticker on the top-left from radar and to try to scrub-off "ZP" from floor window.
  • to paint white those heavily used seats in my brand-new (supposedly) Corsair.

But other that that... probably nothing. BTW, in my personal opinion, it is somewhat opposite tendency in Sim games world: people are trying to build in RL their favorite cockpits for max similarity of interactions with physical RL controls.

Looking at it from that way; Odyssey, Trailblazers and Ascension have had very little impact on my ability to fly a ship, trade, bounty hunt, do missions, etc. Wonder what strapping a small Odyssey settlement to the back of my cockpit would do.
No clue but I do know that's got nothing to do with them having served up the turd cake that is PP twice now. :)

And you're the guy that hasn't been affected by the weekly maintenance blowing out to multiple hours and been visited by a mass of colored snakes so thick you could walk it to Asgard. Lucky you! ⭐

Yep, aside from the stuttering, which annoying as it is, hasn't been game breaking, I've not really had any issues which have meant I couldn't just ignore the recent updates.
It's great being me.

I'd settle for 1,500 and native SCO.

No compromise! 2k or bust! (native SCO goes withot saying)
