The Confessional (or dumb things I've done in game)

Hi all,
I don't know if a thread similar to this has been created elsewhere (the community here seems very vocal!!), but the intent of this thread is a one-stop shop for a laugh...

A new Beta pilot here, so I'm still finding my way around the cockpit of my shiny new Sidewinder (man, she turns like molasses, oh well, you get what you pay for).

I had finally worked out how to request docking clearance, docked successfully and did a bit of nosing around the commodities market.

Found a tidy 4T of clothing(?) at a good price. Should net me a few credits elsewhere.

Requested launch permission, was granted and I was back on my way.

Only thing is, I mixed up the Cargo Scoop and Landing Gear buttons on my console. Either that or I was blindly mashing away at the keys playing the meta-game of 'what does this button do?'.

Anyway, I don't know how but before I knew it, I'd jettisoned all my cargo inside the station. The station master was not pleased!!!

Thank goodness I still have some trading capital left. I've just found a way to make the early game last just that little bit longer...

Sometimes I act cool by maxing the throttle when I leave a station, and boost as I go through the "blue area" (I'm sure there's a more fitting technical name for that).

One such time I flew my sidewinder straight into a hauler.

Awkward.

Great thread Bugbear ;-)

Geez...Where to start ? Attempting to dock at wrong pad, overshooting pad & crashing into control tower, crashing into metal grille at station entrance, failing to speed up whilst hyperdrive was attempting to power up & not realising for several seconds I was taking hull damage, not realising I had weapons drawn approaching station & hitting fire button instead of up throttle & getting obliterated by station defences...The list goes on :D

Fortunately I've sorted those types of issues out now, but I'm sure there's many of us who've done them & more.

I feel better now I've confessed my sins ;-))

It was in Alpha 4 I think, I remember seeing named commanders and decided to show off my landing skills, knowing full well they were struggling at that time.

Well Instant Karma, I came in too fast, bounced around a bit and promptly blew up.

Well, I can recall some :p, but the most dumbest thing I ever did was when I entered in a Station and I received a warning message of trespassing, and realised that I never requested permission to dock , so I rushed out of the station but I ended crashing, my hard earned Cobra, in the wall next to the entrance .

In second place, was when I mistaken the button for jettison all cargo :D

I keep trying to land but it will not let me sometimes as I am facing the wrong way and even got myself upside down once or twice.

I was on a pad right at the far end of the station. Come take off I did my normal routine, thrust straight up until I was level with the slot. Unfortunately, down at this end of the station is this huge long spikey thing that sticks out along the central axis. I hit this at a rate of knots and proceeded to pinball all over the station... until station put me out of my embarrassment.

Hi Bugbear. There have been similar threads but none with such a cool title.

I was kinda half daydreaming whilst entering a station. I didn't see the Lakon coming the other way  There was a sudden waking-up and a slamming-on of anchors from me. That's when I found out that is was possible for a Lakon and a Cobra to share the docking slot.

The elation of living through the experience was short lived. The build of the game at the time had a powerful station entry assist which pulled everything to the centre of the slot. The slower you went the more of a pull it had, and I was stopped in the slot.

I felt like a fly caught in a magnetic web. I was panicking. I needed to move fast, and so my instinct was to hit the "boost" button. I got free alright. I found myself catapulted through the station, and smeared on the wall at the back.

I keep fighting in faction wars with cargo (normally an easy way to do money with a sidewinder) to combine trading with fighting in one run, however when getting destroyed by a Fed Fighter which likes to ram you (mind your surroundings!) all the cargo/money is lost ... ;)

In my souped up viper at a resource extraction, killing random npcs. Got this sidey to half hull, and he kinda just started playing dead and not moving. So I figured I would finish him off by ramming him, that'll be fun right? Aimed right at him, boosted for max speed, and died. I had 100% hull, shields, 4 pips in shields, and military armor. Lesson being, always avoid crashing into ships :/

Once tried to take off normally, retract gear and fly out the port yet for some reason the port was heading upwards despite pitching up and full throttle. Got jammed in latchwork at the edge of the station and reduced to 28% before I figured out that the thruster slider was out of position.

The second dumbest thing I did was trying to bounty hunt in a system by finding unknown signal scources. Picked a planet and went full throttle just when I go thinking, "Where did all the stars go?" note
Was about to jump through the shadow of a planet

You'd think that a green pilot would be cut some slack. All I did was pick up some canisters that were floating unattended between station and sun...apparently that's stealing and I got blown out of the sky because of it...

Ok, now I need to try doing that again and see if the same thing happens...

"Landing gear down, start downward acceleration"
*presses boost instead*
*SPLAT*

That's what I got for copying someone else's layout for my HOTAS at the beginning.

1- Got my brand new shiny Viper with a couple class 1 G pulse lasers in.

2- Saw the "kill 5 system security vessels and get 7,500 Cr" mission... Best mission reward I ve seen for a direct combat mission so far.

3- Accepted it. Killing 5 AI vessels that you can easily locate? How hard can that be right? RIGHT?

:D

PS: I am 110% sure this was FD coming up with a devious way to have us players "test" the newly deployed security systems usually clad with fully kitted Vipers. :p

Started out on a trade route that required 2 hops.
Got to the midpoint, forgot which leg of the route I was on.
Docked back at my starting point and wondered why I'd be selling my cargo at a loss.

After entering the station I was confident that I could decelerate from a boost before hitting the far end. I couldn't. After exploderising all over the rear bulkhead I realised that I had spent all my money on cargo (which was obviously also destroyed) and therefore couldn't afford the insurance to purchase a new ship.

So long Eagle, I hardly knew ye! I'm now back to transporting fish and the like in my Sidewinder.

Ive got a couple....

As a kickstarter standard beta backer, i finally got the chance to play online (the single player scenarios kept overheating my laptop in 5 mins....).
Spent 5 mins pressing every button to figure out what they did - put my sidey into stealth mode, couldnt work out what button to unstealth myself - blew up due to overheating.

Boosted into / out of space stations - while looking at the contacts window. I kept thinking Tab goes to the next screen!

Flying from the far side of one of the stations (the type with the giant ring at one end) through said ring to get to the dock entrance... and crash into one of the plyons

oh, and the ultimate facepalm.... went to supercruise somewhere, and spent 10 mins looking at the screen wondering why its taking so bloody long, why its not working, why the distance counter isnt moving.....
turns out i needed to throttle up - and the throttle on my joystick doesnt work in SC, yet it does in normal flight.

My most recent one was , heading out of the station, I decided to sort out my next jump point, then fumbled and hit boost. I was very lucky, as I. 'd lined up pretty well before delving into the UI.
