Hardware & Technical The controller, Xbox One, will work on PC

Yes, the controller, Xbox One, will work on PC. It just takes wait a stable driver that should come, in 2014. Those who have a PC and a Xbox One, will be happy to learn that they can connect their controller to their PC before the end of 2014. (Albert Penello, director of planning of Microsoft products)

It may well work, but I'm not sure how many people will want it :)

It chews through batteries compared to the 360 controller, and I find it slightly less comfortable.

I got so fed up with it eating Duracell's I gave up and bought the rechargeable battery pack, which lasts a fair bit longer, but at $25 is a bit much for what should have been provided with the original machine.

Might include some links as well. Btw personally I totally dislike the paint job version of the controller you posted :)

There is actually a hacked driver available now:

Also thanks for the info Asp!

PS: Can anyone comment how the PS4 controller compares to the XBox one? The touch pad with mouse support could be better for PC.

It was just an article on a French site with a photo. I just wanted to give the information. For the links I had no doubt that by Google, you will find the links of sites in the UK

:)

There'd better be a wired version because I really don't get along with batteries. It's shocking how often I let my phone run out of charge. A gamepad wouldn't stand a chance.

The only wired version is the $25 rechargeable battery pack, it comes with a fairly long USB cable and is useable when plugged in. Unless there is some wired 3rd party knockoff, of course.

The XB1 controller won't charge AA batteries via USB, only it's own pack.

I don't want to compare the PS4 controller to the XB1 as it feels very different, and the lightbar is kind of cool, but I don't believe I've ever actually used the touchpad yet :) I haven't found anything majorly wrong with either of them though.

I'm hoping when they officially release a PC version, they'll make a wired version, like they did with the 360 controller... Otherwise, I'm simply not buying.

I'm not a console controller fan, I find them very awkward and kind of uncomfortable to use really.

However, the best of the bunch for me was the original Xbox controller. Bought a USB adapter for it and used it for a few PC / emulated games for years. The 360 is the next best, PS4 and XB1 controllers all downhill from there.

Oh dear. I quite like the 360 controller (can't even remember if I ever used the original one), but am disappointed to hear that the new one isn't up to scratch. When a game is designed with gamepad in mind, I definitely prefer playing that way.

I'm almost thinking now that it might be worth my while getting a replacement 360 pad while they're still selling them...

So do I. I may consider it even if they don't release a wired version but I know how quickly the 360 controller could go through a pair of AA batteries and while the play and charge kit was good at first, that battery quickly lost it's charge capacity.

Opinions, personal taste and all that. I've heard a lot of people say the Xbox One controller is a big improvement. Not spent any time with one myself so can't say.
