The coolest thing just happened

So, I had two missions to procure some Coltan and deliver it. I had just upgraded my ship and had enough cargo space. Unfortunately I hadn't factored in the cost of the Coltan, and was only able to do one order at a time.

On my way back to pick up the second order I ran into an Unknown Signal Source. Sometimes I drop out and do these hoping for some bounties. There was one ship, a sidewinder and when I scanned him he sent me a message telling me to check on my mission. He offered nearly twice the price to divert the shipment elsewhere.

The fact that the game has logic to do events like that is pretty freaking awesome.

yeh! this happens on a LOT of missions ;)
easy way to double your profit especially if it's a "slave" mission!
bought 4 slaves for 40k (or there abouts) got a mission to acquire 2 slaves for 25k, got one of these messages offering me 45k to free the slaves at a specific port!
Took them to that port, sold them for 45k THEN took another mission at the same port to liberate another 2 slaves for 45k, since i had 2 left i never needed to leave the screen for an easy profit!

Actually I've done so much (for both sides) it sort of evens out in the long run.
Sometimes I take the offer, other times I don't if other missions I've got planned en-route will make me more than just freeing the slaves.

It does hurt your rep for the original missions faction, but when starting out and not knowing what way to go these are great. More cash plus rep from the counter missions faction and you can make decisions what way you want to go. You can always skip doing what they offer, but its a cool thing that you are being approached with this sometimes. I hope FD makes even more of these where some can even be on the same side to earn more money. Maybe someone from the same faction meet you and ask you to smuggle something to the place you are going for the original mission. So you have to sneak in, sell the smuggled stuff and drop off your main mission. If you pull it off without being interdicted and scanned or scanned on the way into the station you get double the cash. FD mission writers can have a field day with all of this (and im sure they have). :)

I've never did that sort of thing. It must hurt your reputation.

It does :( You just have to weigh if the reward is worth it. I'm still at the point where the extra credits were enough of a persuasion.

I've had a second one pop up that only offered me ~2,000 credits more, decided against that one. I guess my price is doubling my pay :D

Stop pointing out content in this game! People who feel this game is empty and there's nothing to do need to post their complaint threads!

Oh yes, running into such a deep and innovative event that's only specific to you is the pinnacle of quality content.

I mean who could imagine, a wall of text being superseded with another wall of text that then gives you a decision to make!

We've never seen such complexity in a video game before.

That has happened in almost every mission I have taken although I always get offered less to abandon the mission!
