The core looks a bit ropey

I've wondered if they can do it via the skybox generation. Could they add an algorithm that doesn't show all of the stars to make it look better as it's only the skybox that's the real issue.
Yeah, maybe something along these lines (pun not intended), or dimming/raising the brightness of some between the transitions of generated cubes. It'd take a bit of work, but I think it's probably at least possible and could be dynamically applied in the sense of relative location in the galaxy, so as to not mess up the realistic aesthetic near the bubble.

But yeah, maybe just some wishful thinking on my part.

The reports in the issue tracker state that if you log out and then back in the skybox looks OK. If ED can generate the stars when starting up the game then why not do the same when in the hyperspace loading animation?
A relog won't help with the star cubes, but it will (often, not always) fix the missing patches of stars. Presumably this is because there's less going on compared to a hyperjump, so the game can put more resources into rendering the skybox. Since both effects result in straight line artifacts on the sky, I can imagine confusing the two effects on cursory inspection.

Note also that there's a setting accessible only in the XML configs, where you can increase the number of rendered stars. This can help in the same way, at the expense of making hyperjumps and moving around in the galmap slower.

You must be new here.

Not particularly, just eternally charitable. Anyway, I made it to “The Blob” tonight – it's cool, but I'm not sure it was worth shattering my illusions for.

Are there any other must-sees in the area? If not I’ll probably head out to the fringes again… try to forget that I ever saw the “bad thing”. :D

Are there any other must-sees in the area?

The great annihilator is the usual second place to visit on the way to or back from SagA*, it's another large black hole. I've been in & through the core region several times & generally I'm less interested in individual systems & more likely to do things like travel as high as possible just to get that unique view of the entire galaxy. The fringes are above & below the galactic plane as well as around the perimeter ;)
