The curious case of HIP 23824 for Zemina Torval

Curiosity alone makes me post this post.

May I present to you a place known as HIP 23824.

When I look at HIP 23824 I do not think much of it. In fact, it actually look like a crappy place. So bad in fact that Zemina Torval might end up with a loss for expanding there.

Someone out there seem to disagree though. In fact, they have landed almost 2000 in that place to prepare it for expansion... outcompeting lucrative places with great CC value. For awhile I ended up competed against them, trying to improve more lucrative prospects, only to get hit by a haymaker when someone dropped 4-500 into HIP 23824 in one blow.

And this make me very curious. What is going on? Is there a rational plan behind this that I cannot see? Is it because players do not understand that this is a loss system and just use it for grinding? Or do we have spies who undermine us from within?

Like someone else said. Powerplay is like trying to herd cats.

Mostly Elite is a single player game. Powerplay requires coordination but there's not much in the game to help organise that. So everyone just continues as normal and does their own thing.

Exactly, making it a multiplayer game or devide up single and multi and offer a clan system would help. A public player based blackboard would be enough.

Just because you're pledged to a power doesn't mean you have their best interest in mind. Undermining a competing power's efforts can also be done this way.

Our experiences with situations like these is this:
- there is a profitable or semi-profitable trade route to this system
- people farm the free merits while trading

As soon as there are a few people, and they all bring in the free merits every 30 minutes, it's enough to push the system. And you can hardly ever counter a bad preparation, since you'd need to push 4-5 other systems instead of the bad one.

Its because people are idle gits, and would rather expand a crap system 1Ly away than expand a decent system 2Ly away. Its what does my head in with PowerPlay. Good work done by the few undermined by the moronic many.
