The current state of Chaff

Buff request :)

See nothing wrong with the current implementation of chaff.

Its not a buff request :) I was just wondering if I am the only one who is trying to use fixed and is unsatisfied with the current effectiveness of Chaff.

From the responses it looks like I really am in the minority. (I am just going to assume the "chaff is fine" posts were actually made by people who use fixed weapons themselves, not by people who use gimbals and want to keep their advantage.)

Although I am suprised that not more people are bothered by the fact that a decent fight burns through 10 rounds of Chaff very quickly. Which pretty much forces you to return to base even if you come out as the winner .. and you better hope you are not interdicted by other players on your way back ... because your defence will be crippled at that point...

So in essence I am going to try with two Chaff launchers for a bit to see if the situation improves. If not I will simply go back to gimbals and classify fixed weapons as "not worth it".

even if bound to a key it fires one at a time and alternates between your equipped chaffs

Can you elaborate on this? In my experience, a second chaff launcher will kill both of them. No chaffs can launch. I added a +1 to an existing bug in the bug forum, but not sure about the status.

Are you saying you keep multiple chaff modules active, and it automatically alternates so you get 20 chaffs without touching power module???
 
My personal opinion is that they are over powered.

They counter gimbled, turrets, missiles, cargo scanner and kill warrant scanner.

Thus making ECM, point defense and silent running pointless.

Would like to see more diversity in ship setups and play styles. Chaff is an offender to this.

Personally I agree here, but the other thing to mention is that if you equip chaff and find yourself against a player that is using fixed weapons you effectively give your opponent an advantage.
equip a chaff launcher instead of a booster and you've lowered your defenses against a player your chaff doesn't effect.
this is multiplied if using more than one chaff launcher.
while it does give you a massive advantage against gimbaled users whom already run weaker weapons most pvpers will be using fixed as well.
i think for the most part it balances itself out because of the current state of PvP if fixed weapons weren't so much better and efficient though chaff would be very over powered.
personally I would like to see chaff limited to only 1 per ship with double the ammo with a slight duration increase. Dual chaff vs gimbaled opponents is pretty cheap imo.
