The death of sothis

So now that sothis has died what's the best way to get money just traded everything to get a python got to sothis and boom nerfed surely I can get money quicker than a mil or two a pop

If stations in edge areas or remote areas are being nerfed to nonsensical levels (meaning there's no better deals there than in the middle of the bubble) then supply/demand is out the window and it's now Elite:Hand of God

Or supply/demand was bugged. It makes no sense that hundreds of commanders endlessly fly T9s filled with crap back and forth to pretty much irrelevant stations and earn obscene fortunes in no time while doing so. Its a bug in the BGS, not a sensible feature. The BGS should result in temporary 'gold rushes' that you find yourself for you and some friends. If endless number of people can endlessly grind it for no discernible reason it has nothing to do with supply/demand in the first place.

In other words: trade missions need to be tied to the commodity markets.

With a python you can do trade or boom delivery missions anywhere, and A rated (then engineered) bounty hunt anywhere. Great ship, explore the galaxy a bit and find a new home. Just remember missions will be low paying until you ally yourself with the station factions.

You are right — mission prices and commodity prices ought to reflect the number of commanders running missions or some other way to reflect the remoteness of stations. I haven’t seen a good proposal for this, but the BGS does need some work.

Still, it never made much sense that a gold rush would remain a gold rush. I think there is still money to be made in that system and there are some scanning missions in systems on the edge of the bubble.

If you get allied in Cubeo and surrounding areas, then you can make very good money hauling in a Python. Short hop to HIP 5623 normally gets me at least 10 million in cargo haulage rewards. Add in some pirate assassinations, planetary scans, etc. and the fun and rewards increase.

Pretty much sums up how to make money. :)

It only makes sense if demand increases again without the hand of god, once the hauling stops.

If you make the entire galaxy homogeneous from a trade standpoint, it's not worth the time it takes to engage in it.

Example: How do they get materials out to Colonia? If you haul something there, you'll get bubble prices for it. Surely there's not a contingency of commanders marathon hauling every commodity back and forth from Colonia to the bubble. So that indicates that there's no supply/demand in play.

I agree with temporary gold rushes, that should mean that you can move around and find them. You won't. You'll find bugs that result in a simulation of a gold rush, and the balancing of the market happens via hand of god after someone on reddit or youtube makes it publicly known and it gets spammed to death.

Maybe it's a bug but it's indistinguishable from just a poor BGS and too much tweaking.

I think I have a Python laying around somewhere :)

Pretty much this.

Unless you're asking what the new meta is.... ;)

What happened to Sothis? Lucrative Long range missions disappeared back in 2016, only data or small cargo runs out there now, have those also disappeared? Sothis stopped being a money maker a long time ago, much better places for haulage out there.

30 million in total for 5LY trip, haven't even filled up my cargo bay yet.

What has changed? I was there last night and racked up 20 million in 15 minutes? Was in my Anaconda...but a Python should be able to make about half that in the same amount of time.

Pick an activity, find a system that has the activity you like, get allied with factions, make money. It's important to stop relying on youtube and actually play the game at some point so you know where to go when gold mines go away. It's pretty basic stuff that's never been easier.

It isnt homogenous. Famine, War, Outbreak and such states are highly profitable and dynamic based on actions of the community. Sothis was a fluke and broke the pretty impressive background simulation because missions aren't yet properly based on the BGS in fringe situations. There is actually a pretty cool game hidden beneath the latest exploits. ;)

I've been playing for years. There was always a reason to look around for deals until this latest update and now it's all wing missions. It's like you travel 150LY to another set of systems and you are basically in the same situation you just left. I understand the different economic states, but system A in boom is basically the same as system B in boom.

One jump long distance passenger runs. Made a half billion in one and a half weeks of mind numbing very casual gameplay.
