The devs have we done it upside down?!?!

Good morning all

A few months ago, Frontier released an Odyssey video trailer. We saw (screenshot from the video) with the words "IN GAME FOOTAGE":

We see a beautiful ice planet, a superb blue sky ... And the name of the planet: WOLF 1311 B-3-B

Since then, I've always said to myself that when Odyssey comes out, it's one of the first planets I will see.

Today destination WOLF 1311 B3B, and the .....:

So disappointed, seeing angry with frontier, I didn't bother to take other captures, or even get off the ship. It is the same everywhere on the planet. I did launch odyssey, practically everything in graphics option, it is indeed the same planet. So if I did something wrong tell me, but I left the game itself.
if frontier reads me, do you take the players for fools ????
how can we arrive at such a difference ?? especially going from good to very bad ??

Your CMDS opinions?

They revamped the planet generation since then, which means that the planets in question won't look anything like they did before.

However, that doesn't mean there can't be planets looking like that, depending on generation and lighting conditions.

There is (was?) a "ULTRAFORCAPTURE"option in graphics. Apparently, a left over from when they took those beautiful trailers and screenshots. It seems to makes things look prettier, but it is very intensive for the computer.
Screenshot for option :

Try again that planet with that option, if your computer can handle it. I'm curious at the result.

Bait and switch has sadly become the norm for the industry. It won't stop before we as consumers wait to spend our money until the released product has been reviewed by third party critics.
So, it won't stop. Let's be honest, if people were smart, we wouldn't be in the world we are now. And stuff like DLC wouldn't have happened, when the one that started it all was a stupid horse armor in Oblivion. Yeah, that's how it started. People laughed because 5$ for a horse armor was ridiculous. And there we are.

It's possibly due to a difference in the plusnet generation, they might have used a different algorithm in the pre alpha for generation.

What I can say, is I have seen ice planets like the one in the FD picture in Odyssey, they had nitrogen atmospheres. I've also seen planets that look like the ones you have taken. They had methane atmospheres. It is strange that the same planet is different between builds, but there could be many reasons for that.

That is a very misleading title OP

I came here on false pretences, what what

You are wrong I think.

The last image of the 3 above is a different planet. The ship is an alliance ship. The first two with the planet name in the hud are in a cobra. The landscape from the cockpit actually looks the same as the first two in your photos, it's just the colours have changed presumably based on the parameters they have used to generate colours, from green-blue to reds-yellows. There are other planets with those green-blue colours in the game for sure.

Basically your complaint, the only valid bit, is the shot with the alliance ship - we havent seen that planet which looked great in that shot. But its not WOLF 1311 B3B.

The graphical changes ran so poorly, that they were forced to drop graphics to what you see so that it could be run on less than a 3090ti.

Absolute bait and switch, and FD lied through their teeth.

"In game footage . . . similar performance to EDH"

The knights will cry slander, but everyone knows it's true. FD boldly lied to everyone.
lol

I'm actually more concerned (as someone who is still on horizons) that the graphics just look kinda bad regardless of frame rate (at least in the videos I've seen).

Whatever they did with the lighting/tone is not good.

Edit - as someone not at all interested in FPS this was the one thing I hoped would be a plus - now I'm not sure if I'll ever buy EDO

There's literally nothing in those first 3 images that would need a 3090 to render.
As a matter of fact there's nothing in the whole Odyssey content (at least not in what I've seen of it so far) that could explain why high-end GPU owners should be happy with sub-120 fps figures. It certainly cannot be as demanding as CP2077's super duper ray-traced eye candy, not even close, and even my lowly RTX2080 was capable of much better fps figures in that disaster of a game release (even with ray tracing enabled) than what some 30's series GPU users can achieve in Odyssey.

Which is good news tbh, because it means there's still hope for Odyssey players if fdev manage to fix this buggy and obviously very poorly (or not at all) optimized DLC.
