Ships The Diamondback Looks Amazing!

The hope is that the diamondback will have aspish jump ranges but _be more maneuverable_. That is really the key, better supercruise turning speed would be amazing. I would be surprised if a nimble little ship like that couldn't outturn the asp. The real question is how light its hull will be. If light enough and still fits a class 4 FSD, we are good to go. As an explorer, I would happily give up a few of asp's cargo internals in exchange for better supercruise turn speed -- if the jump range is comparable.

I wanted to LOVE the Diamondback, based on the artwork alone. However, the in game pics of the nose look significantly different from the best parts of the concept art. I understand that they had to extend it outward to increase visibility, but now the front is quite blocky and featureless. Looks like an attack bus that was hit the face with an anvil. Hopefully they add more nuance to the flat nose or chisel it a bit to make in interesting. Even a cosmetic asymmetric foward antenna array like the one on the viper would help spruce things up a bit.

I absolutely loved the metal above the thrusters, it looked awesome! I was expecting a rough, tough Lakon Type 6, and I've never been so glad to be disappointed!

Anyone else agree?

I completely agree. It is a bit of an odd looking ship, kind of like an armored fly, but that just adds to its "character." The cockpit looks like it has a nice field of view too.

I've been dropping my two cents in on the Diamondback wiki page as well after seeing all the people complaining about it there. Worth a laugh at least, seeing what some have said.

I'm really looking forward to this ship. I tend to prefer smaller ones anyway, as long as they have a chance of holding their own.

Cheers.

Only thing I am waiting to hear about the Diamondback is how far it jumps without the weapons, and how much fuel can be squeezed into it. Only these two things will decide should I retire the Asp, or not.

I suspect that my Asp will be flying for long time to come, though.
