The distance at which the planet begin to pick out - is very short.
Looks very ugly and absurd - there is nothing, nothing, and suddenly out of nowhere appears a planet.

Is this a known problem? Will it be fixed?

Yea the draw distance isn't long enough. There needs to be a way to turn the LOD switching off, it's not needed on high spec machines :/

They did it to resolve crazy stuttering when approaching planets. It is not a problem, its a fix for an old bug.

This, it didn't start until stuttering (not the minor stuff you see today, like serious multi-second stutters) was resolved. Planets used to be observable at greater distances but the stuttering just ruined it all even on higher end machines. I believe they will fix it at some point and reintroduce the old draw distance.

1.1 holds some changes to planet texture rendering (including parallax shaders, which sound awesome for planets with atmospheres and gas giants). They expect this to make planet rendering more efficient, so perhaps they'll be able to improve LOD too.

But how is that?
This is the modern game. Modern engine.
Is it not possible to make a planet approaching from afar, beautiful?
Ships approaching without such problems and not one. Is the planet harder than the ship in graphic design?
Or at least make the setting for the owners of powerful graphics cards?

Oh, thank you. I hope.

But it's in any case very not beauty... :(

I really hate to be the one to inject reality, but go take a look at some pictures of real life. Go look for some pictures of mars ( or go outside and find it in the night sky). Imagine how CLOSE you are to mars, and how it looks with the naked eye from Earth. Jot down the distance from Earth to Mars in game, then start taking a look at planets as you SC in (noting the distance from the planet). It is more accurate than you think.

Now with that out of the way, ya, sure would be nice to see them a little better! ;)

It's tad ugly though... and more than a fix it's like a jury-rig with duct-tape until more efficient method is crafted to replace the old (über-stutter) one.

To an extent... until you realize that the small dot is smaller than the much bigger planet that sooner or later replaces it...

This effect is only at small planets and moons. Maybe it's a bug. Or defect. With stars from the alpha-beta - all okay.

And the best way for a person that can't actually fix code to change it is to break it somewhere else, good call. I see they are still hiring people that hopefully can fix code problems.
