I have heard the "Do not make this game into Eve" often enough that it really gets on my nerves and makes me angry, because it is such a dumb statement.
So to all people that say that, a few points to remember:
1. This is Elite: Dangerous, noone cares about Eve.
2. If a feature is good and improves the game, hopefully noone cares about whether it is in another game.
3. Same goes for all other possible features of all other MMOs.
4. If you are intelligent, you learn from the successes and mistakes of other people.
Is "The Artist" a worse film, because it heavily leans on the plot from "Singing in the Rain"?
Is Windows 7 anything like a Mac, just because it uses a mouse?
Is Chrome the same as Firefox and Internet Explorer, because it uses tabs?
Really, guys, it's no issue at all whether there are features that are similar to other games, be they called Eve, or World of Warcraft, or World of Tanks, or Trucking Simulator 2014.
The only things that matters are:
Will the feature make Elite: Dangerous as good as possible?
Will the feature make Elite: Dangerous better and more enjoyable?
Will the feature allow us to play more Elite: Dangerous and have more fun in it?
Of course there are things like the core of the brand... but really... that's not your business. This is Frontier's business and David Braben's business.
P.S.
Yes, I know, this is a whine post about whiners.
TL;DR
It only matters how Elite: Dangerous can become an even better game. Learning from others - whoever they are - does not take away anything from it.
