Ships The Dolphin fuel tank!

hmmm not exactly a beta thread as its more discussing ship builds than feedback so I feel it should live here.

For those in Beta what are you running in your Dolphin an 8T or 16T were talking nearly 3ly on plotted routes here (weight sensitive build) so i'm interested to know the thoughts of other CMDR's

So tell me what your running, I plan on running 8T but I don't want to get 10kly out and regret it, so far in Beta I have been fine but I haven't exactly done any distance either, and KGBFOAM stars are abundant near the bubble.

8t. it is fuelscooping fast enough not to stop at all, differently to a DBE - which gains imho from a standard 32T tank, as you can scoop fully every 1000 ly while routeplotting with it.

interestingly I always use a 32t in my DBx for the same reasons, I suppose that's why I have a hang up about reducing the tank, but it makes so much sense on the dolphin, just wanted to make sure im not missing anything important :)

as long as you make a habit of scooping fully before extended srv sessions...

5A fuel scoop and smaller tank... Yeah... smaller tank and avoid large plots of unscoopables :)

how do you get a class 5 fuelscoop on a dolphin? do i miss a trick? isn't the class 5 internal restricted to cabins/cargo/HRP anymore?

All depends on setup really, I mean my conda can drain its fuel tank in 4 jumps course its combat fit so yeah.

as long as you dismiss the ship it don't use fuel right?!? is this something I have overlooked all this time? I think the most I have spent planeside is 3hrs and didn't notice a big drop in fuel if any?

and a class 5 fuel scoop is not possible, its a restricted slot last time I checked in beta 5.

that does not depend on set-up, but on FSD size and grade.

every FSD class has a fixed tonnage of max fuelusage per jump.

the class 6A of a conda needs 8T of fuel per jump, and it has 32T of fuel as a standard (like DBE and AspE) = 4 jumps.

the class 5A FSD of AspE and DBE has a max. fuelusage of 5T. they can make 6,4 jumps of 32T of fuel.

the class 4A of a dolphin uses 3T of fuel per jump ... it can make 5,3 jumps out of its standard 16T fueltank.

for relaxed exploring, 4-4,5 jumps of fuel are totally okay, and 2-2,5 is doable as well, even more so when restricting the routeplotter to scoopables.

it does use fuel, even when dismissed. there was a great thread about circumventing a planet in a srv, which dealt with that problem.

of course the amount of fuel used when idle is minor in a typical explorer build, as it depends on powerusage, which you cut down as much as possible, and turn off most modules anyway.

but i was more putting it out as a warning, as i have lost ships by landing, putting the game in background, cooking dinner, getting sidetracked by my beloved family, and coming back the other day to a destroyed ship.

my DBE with 32T of fuel could run ~2,5 days if landed, if scooped fully.

Yeah think I ran at 0.4t/hr with non essential stuff switched off so never noticed any fuel use, glad you said something as I didn't know this was a thing!!!!!!!!
