The DON'T PANIC discussion about the OPTIONAL restart for Horizons BETA

Ok, I've read David's post back again and I get it, seems the 'announcement' is the new starting location... Hmm, I wouldn't call it a revelation but I now understand. No new commander slot yet.

How??

the "clear save" button in the horizon-beta client is dark grey and doesn't work for me :(

Nah with the main game , but maybe im missing somethng , horizon beta is out?

And would be fun if Dehan is the new start location , i hope its still haunted!

So FD would like us to restart in Horizons... NOTE THAT THIS SHOULD BE BETA ONLY and NOT AFFECT your 'real' main commander.... (to be confirmed)

This has raised a number of questions.
How will restarting NOT affect our current commander?
Are we talking about multiple slots?
Will we lose all our progress and have to start all over?
What is the advantage of a restart?

Those are mine to start, would like FD to get involved if possible.

Thanks...
Thoughts?

I really don't think we would lose all the progress if we 'restart' the Horizon beta, at least we won't lose our progress by now (you ships, credits and reputation of factions). this is just what David wants to clarify. Maybe we don't know how exactly it would go, but nothing would erase you data except you do it youself

Any confirmation if they have reset everyones starting system then ?

I'll restart in BETA once Horizon drops, will be fun :D

I'm interested to see what they have in store. Most probably I'll reset my non-beta CMDR after Horizons is released. It was a fun trip to where I am now, and most certainly will be again.

In fact, I had been quite mistaken in my original thinking about planetary landing/SRV elements. Initially I imagined that all these things would require a significant investment, and saved up $150 million to cover the parts for my Cobra/Python/Anaconda. But instead, it seems that these gameplay elements are intended to be accessible even for early play, and the Sidewinder can even serve as a platform. So why not... I'll play it that way and enjoy the ride!

I'll save wipe one of my accounts for the beta, but the one with 100 Mil in the bank, I'll keep for high end testing to access ships I couldn't possibly earn from a reset.

Make it a reset with the devs adding 100 mil into my account and I'll do both happily.

Anything that happens in beta stays in beta :)

They make a copy of the live database data and it's used by the beta servers. So, it's completely separate from the main database where your live commander lives...

though i'd like to, i plan on buying a cutter once the horizons beta starts (no desire to login until 2.0 beta)

As my thread got locked, my original post:

I will be wiping my save in the Horizons BETA, as FD have requested, just to see what its like to start from scratch again

Unfortunately, I have not spend much time in BETA(s) as i lose time in the main game, as i don't get to play as often as i'd like.

So, how about, if you wipe your save in BETA, then any credits you earn in BETA are added to your main account, then the time spent in BETA is not a complete loss

Would work for any BETA

FD?

As pointed out, in previous thread, yes, its BETA, its for testing only, but i'm sure i am not the only one with limited time, plus i was under the assumption that if they want us to start from scratch, there wouldn't be any difference between BETA and LIVE (except Horizons), as they did with 1.4 at the end.
