General / Off-Topic The Dry January

It's a thing for some people after Xmas bingeing.
Other newspapers say it's a health risk... probably as any cold-turkey thing needs monitoring... I dunno.
Personally, never observed it either way.

It's the thought police, who are running this nanny state; putting a wedge between people and alcohol. Like the smoking and the sugar and anything else, that might be mistaken for fun.

Tell me about it...

Worse is Veganuary.

Weirdos.

They can... Well, you know what. ;)
You can find vegetarian beer and wine but I bet the price is premium.
At least Whisky is not tainted with animal cruelty. So for me it is a negated Scotchanuary. Sláinte

Arry is not wholly right in saying:

It's the thought police, who are running this nanny state;

It is the world and I wonder how many of them have ever got their hands dirty when working. [where is it]
I agree with lots that the things the PCers want changed. It is the way that some of them say it as if everyone who disagreed with their opinions was in the moral wrong. </Rant>

I know, you'd think it'd be easy... still, it's hardly worth it, there's no meat on 'em, poor malnourished things.

It's the marrow you want from those types. Makes great soup much better than a soup stone*. Personally I prefer the Hippy. They are docile and come ready spiced.

RIP Ray Sawyer.

Not wanting to live off suffering is weird?

Yes, weird. Humans have eaten meat for millennia.

Why this generation has decided "well actchually..." I'll never know.

If eating meat makes me less evolved, then I'm less evolved.

I had to check that this was OT. :x

It is like I said above. The statements are couched in a way to take the moral high ground.
Of course it is wrong to cause animals distress. But we did have to grow our population to grow our civilisation and we did have to feed them and we have religions that reinforce that. Man is master over all etc.
I won't go on. Everyone's heard it countless times.
The mantra is: Don't feed the troll.

A vegan diet helps longevity, uses less resources and creates less pollution. You feel great eating plants. 22 years a vegan and I haven't been sick, except for hang overs. I supplement protein like everyone who works out. B12 too like everyone should do, especially if they consume processed meats, oh and vitamin D because I work nights. that's it. it's cheap and easy. you stay lean and have so much energy.

Hollywood is vegan central nowadays. Cyclists and ultra runners are getting into it. it's a safe way of losing weight fast and keeping it off while not feeling hungry all the time. Mankind has adjusted its stance on many things. 1863 and all that. Yeah if the scare mongers are correct and resources are running out. A vegan diet may have to be encouraged, since we can feed seven times as many people that way. I don't judge anyone for their choices. It's up to you. mocking people for their diet choices, especially if it doesn't impact you is silly. I personally think chopping off your privates is insane, but hey what ever floats their boat, as long as it doesn't impact me.

then again meat eating is polluting so I guess it does impact everyone.

The thought police propaganda, is working well here: Humans are Omnivores and there should be no stigma or name calling, based on what we eat. The things most humans eat, is based on economic grounds, more than anything else and social pressure, should have nothing to do with it.

How can you tell someone is vegan?
You don't need to, they'll tell you. ;)

As for Dry January, it sounds like another made up thing. Lots of people foreswear alcohol after over-indulging at Christmas and New Year. They don't do it because of some marketing push. They do it for their own sake as a New Year Resolution to improve their own wellbeing.

As for myself, I'm effectively teetotal anyway so it's no big deal to me.

You may not feel it: But you are being judgemental from an apparent moral high ground.

You can afford the diet you choose, many can't.

Vegans, Vegetarians etc. do not, necessarily live longer than Omnivores, because diet is just one part of lifestyle.

To be blunt: Drinking tap water, can be polluting; in this world of 'what makes CO2'. Growing food is one thing: Putting it on the table, is another.

At the same time, I will argue and fight, for your rights to eat what you choose to, but being a Vegan, dose not make you a better or morally higher person, than most of the rest of the population.
