I doubt that. A cutter in SCO burns through its fuel at around 100,000 ls. I frequently have 5% left when I get to my colony ship about 78kls from the arrival point. 5% fuel was maybe still enough to jump to Sol, though?I assume the fuel margins are so thin because SCO?
If there was no SCO use then I'd expect plenty of fuel remaining. (When I have a long supercruise distance to cover and have a SCO drive I use SCO as much as I can without running out of fuel so that by the time I arrive I'm very low on fuel. I don't leave it in SCO then wander off to make coffee, I just use SCO to speed up the trip as much as the fuel reserves will allow)I doubt that. Maybe. I haven't tried cruising the 6.78 million ls to Hutton Orbital in a cutter with or without SCO, so I can't say for sure. I doubt I've taken it farther than about 450k. There aren't really any other long cruises that compare to Hutton unless a guy just cruises to the limit of a system. If there was no SCO use then I'd expect plenty of fuel remaining. This sounds like a job for... THE FUEL RATS!
In your defense, at least you made it to the station. I assume the fuel margins are so thin because SCO?

This is why I used the Cutter - lots of fuel. But I forgot that the station doesn't have large pads.
Jump to the very nearest star with a station with large pads, it will take a tiny amount of fuel, then fly carefully, no SCO, to the nearest station!
I've just done the dumbest thing I've ever done in Elite. In my defense I've been away some years and I'm a bit rusty
As you can see I cannot land and I cannot refuel.
wow, could that be possible? I'll try!
Yes, it will use only a tiny fraction of the fuel needed for a long jump, you may not even see the fuel bar drop, then a long slow cruise to the nearest station in the system. You still have fuel left in your main tank plus auxiliary fuel, you should have plenty. The other option if it is to far is to generate a FSD boost using Jumponium, then jump to the nearest useful star, that will reduce the fuel requirement by half.

it was when i trusted the docking computer and it smashed my cutter like an accordian against the side of the station. also when i started playing i tried jumping to the center of the galaxy and didnt know i needed a fuel scoop
Given that the stranded CMDR was able to save themselves after your advice, I think that makes you an honorary Fuel Rat!?Jump to the very nearest star with a station with large pads, it will take a tiny amount of fuel, then fly carefully, no SCO, to the nearest station!

(I am not a Fuel Rat, I do not speak for them or know their ways, but you kinda rescued someone from their fuel stranding, so I think it should count)
