The DW2 race idea.....

So, Distant worlds 2 is in the recruitment stage, with a rough map showing where they plan to fly.

Whilst looking at their route, I realised, that's highly inefficient isn't it? For those wanting just to get to Beagle point. But just how inefficient?

So, a plan started to form.

As I hate engineers, I naturally avoid them. So no FSD boosts or lightweight mods. DW2 will have those in it's favour. But, becuase I'm not part of the group, I can fly as the eagle does, and cut a huge chunk off the journey. That is the race premise.

Can I beat engineered DW2 ships to Beagle point, by making my route more efficient?

This is where you come in, to either tell me I'm crazy, or to help me plan how this race will go down.

So, what's it to be?

Edit: I found out I don't actually need an engineered ship to keep up, just the jump range to get the BP (33.4).

This thread can be as good as closed, at least for me.

The DWE route isn't meant to be the most efficient, it tours the sights and follows the route that Erimus took when he first reached Beagle Point. The planned time is 16 weeks to make the outbound trip, with a 38-40LY Anaconda, you can reach Beagle in 24 hours. :)

Beagle Point, doesnt require an engineered ship to reach, though it helps a lot, and is going to be much less of a time-grind after 3.0

If an engineered ship took the direct route, the time required is now well under 24 hours.

I just thought it'd be a cool idea tbh. Both sides have a strength and weakness, and presumably, there would be people who would say "challenge accepted".

I even have an idea for the stock build I'd use.....

It's rather....interesting.....

I went slightly cross eyed reading the OP.

So, what you are saying is, you are making a "competition" with people that don't share your objective and don't know that they are in competition with you??!

Isn't this roughly equivalent to racing a FedEx truck that is making deliveries while you go straight from the start of the route to the end?

Oh, and as an after thought, you are flying a ship through space at super-luminal speeds that is capable of jumping from star system to star system, but you hate engineers??!

Sol - Beagle Point 6h 35min
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/296037-The-65000-Ly-from-Sol-Club-ver-3-0

Without engineering you'd maybe manage it in 10h or so. In short if done right you'd be able to go back and forth between Sol and Beagle Point many many times prior to the fleet arriving.

But as others said DW2 is not about times, efficiencies or racing, it's about exploration and the joys of group flight. Not being in the group you'll miss out on a lot, sure there's action in Open but the vast majority are in PG <- At least they were on DW1 anyway
Also you have no obligations, you can be in the fleet and do all the waypoints in the first day... Or start really late and only catch up towards the end. It's entirely optional. I personally tend to wander off and do my own thing then rejoin every waypoint or every other waypoint.

And dont think you can rush ahead. In dw1, I made it to bp several weeks ahead of schedule. Not racing, but just had a lot of time on my hands. I had to stay at BP till the allotted day to officially 'count'

At least one CMDR made it from the Bubble to BP in under 24 hours real time (*) with a pre-engineering Anaconda and without using jumponium. If you want to test your level of craziness then that should be your target ;)

* - I'm only slightly mad since it took me 40 hours real time

OP obviously you're free to do what you want, but these exploration expeditions are the exact opposite of a race... Nobody's counting :D

It's not a cannonball run, there is absolutely no rush whatsoever, the purpose is to adopt an easy-going attitude, explore with calm, the planned route and waypoints are just a way for people to congregate in the same general area along the tour, so they can meet up frequently. By the way, the current record of people in the same instance is from distant worlds 1:

What's the point of racing against an event that isn't racing? If you want to rush ahead, nothing is stopping you. Just make sure you know how to contact the Fuel Rats ahead of time. As for racing to Beagle Point, Chiggy set the record. :)

By default, Distant World expeditions are planned around base camp community events and meet-ups. The time frame is deliberately generous to allow people with little play time to keep pace with the fleet and make each base camp.

You'll miss all the fun though and it'll be a very lonely journey. ;)

Distant Stars had a faster pace (since it was closer), but the actual meet-ups were a lot more relaxed. We actually scouted out places looking for planets to have events since it was all unexplored. By far one of the most enjoyable experiences in the game for me to date.

Makes sense now, I had often wondered why there was no return fromM67. Thanks :D

Commemorated by FDev by making an official Anaconda Graveyard POI on HD 76133 1C - Elysium's Rest. Once again, thank you Frontier!
