The Eagle needs MOAR SPEED!

I love my Viper, but this Eagle is boatloads of fun for the maneuverability it gets. Only problem is it's so slow.
For being the lightest fighter, it should be the fastest but it can barely get above 340 m/s on a boost.
The Viper in comparison can easily get to 400.

It has paper thin shields, armor, and only 3 small hardpoints. It has the moves but it needs speed too. If it could go faster then a boosting Asp I would consider permanently adding it to my hanger.

I actually think there should be more differentiation in the game between top speed and acceleration.
It seems reasonable that the Clipper has the top (or one of) speed of all ships, but due to its massive size compared to other ships, I think it should reach that speed at a much slower rate than the smaller fighters reach their top speeds.

So an Eagle should be fast and zippy, moving at high acceleration and stopping speeds, but should be outpaced over time by the bigger ships (which makes sense to me).

NO, case dismissed

If the Eagle had more speed it would just be too good. I know it doesn't make sense in space but the Viper and Cobra have bigger engines because they're larger craft. It 'feels' right to me.

I think you hit the Submit button before finishing your reply with some reasoned arguments there. ;)

what argument is to be had against people who demand to beat naval destructors with row boats, or demand capabilities increase on ships just for the lulz?

NONE

as well as with people who defends them

If the Eagle needed to break off from an engagement it wouldn't be able to outrun anything. Even a Vulture which is slow as mud.
That's just not right.

Well, in real life, the bigger a vessel is, the faster it can go, because of mass to volume ratios.
Ok that's simplistic but it's basically the case.
larger craft can take huge engines and still leave enough room for useful stuff, and ocean going craft suffer less drag comparatively the bigger they get

example, take a cube ok useless as an oceanic vessel but easier to work with :p

1 metre cubed = 1 cubic metre, 6 square metres of surface space (6 faces each 1 metre x1 metre) = 1:6 ratio
2 metre cube = 8 cubic metres, 24 square metre surface = 1:3 ratio
3 metre cube = 27 cubic metres, 54 square metre surface = 1:2 ratio
etc

it does have one problem though, bigger an object or creature is, because of this ratio, harder it is to cool down, as it has less surface area to vent heat. but you can redirect heat as a power source, ie recycling. Energy can be used to cool!
with advanced tech, almost any waste energy, kinetic or thermal, could be used for power.

all this also means, big guns do a hell of a lot more damage as they scale up!
a 20 mm cannon will tear a man apart
a 200 mm howitzer will obliterate a house.

I wonder why threads such as these where someone simply queries whether something should work the way it does always brings out the rage from those who cant adapt to change or new ideas.

Such a shame really. Without change or even experimentation all things eventually begin to stagnate.

the eagle is the most agile ship in the game. when ur dogifhting against an opponent who does not use turrets it has a lot to do with who can outturn whom.

the eagle can effectively stay out of sight and keep attacking a larger opponent like a viper or a cobra until its dead as it is. more speed would make it a bit too much imo.

You can give the Eagle all the speed you want but my Vulture of death will still vapourise it before its moved 3 feet!! :D
