For what it's worth, I imagine it might be one notch more interesting if the station began its physical construction phase as soon as the first tier metals were collected, and then the next tier(s) remained available for completion. Players might see the construction in progress and think, "Hey, look, all this grinding is doing something after all. I shall collect more! Jeeves, cancel my day job! I must requisition golden taps for the Odysseus!"

It's because FD can't afford to have their incredibly banal and ill conceived 'community goal' fall completely flat, because that would look terrible for the game.

What would they have to say in this weeks newsletter?

"Because Elite is completely dead on arrival, our community goals barely even got 3% of the player base to participate."

I still can't believe a single person at FD okayed community grinding events with such pitiful rewards.

You want me to grind NPC slaying for 7 days for a measly 2 million credits? I'll have the anaconda in 150 weeks at this rate!
