The EIC is proud to announce: The Silk Road! A massive trade route for the whole community.

This story starts with a subject that is dear to most commanders hearts: Credits. Something that we at EIC take very seriously.

Across scorching stars and freezing space the traders of the East India Company have created one of the most important trade routes in Human History. From great distances commerce and cultures are traversing this galactic thoroughfare. Forget the mind-numbing AB routes, we have an adventurous trade route for commanders to make profit.

Around a month ago a nameless commander on our Teamspeak said "Why not go between three stations instead of two so that the supply/demand stays viable." This was then followed by "Why not link four stations" which caused a conversation which ended in an idea. The kind of idea that you have trouble determining which is greater... the idea, or the thinking of it. "Why not connect the civilized space?"

The East India Company is proud to announce:

The Galactic Silk Road

Time to run est: 2 hours
  • 17 stops.
  • Average station at 473ls from star
  • 10,500 credits per ton per hour. 200 cargo space = 3 Million credits per hour.
  • Start anywhere in the loop.
No matter whose flag you fly we all need credits... Federal, Aliance, or Empire we all know that a healthy trading community results in a healthy combat community which keeps the Elite Dangerous community as a whole alive and full of enjoyable characters and unique player groups.

Because of those implications we would also like to announce the protection and/or cooperation of guilds across the Galaxy.

  • [fed] r/Federalnavy has agreed to pin this post on their subreddit and to recognize the cross faction potential of this idea.
  • [emp] Quick Response Force - Will be providing protection from pirates for all traders.
  • [emp] Logan Leestamin - Will be providing on-call protection for traders.
  • [ind] The Mercs of Mikunn
  • [fed] Merchant Marines - Providing protection of all traders. Will be giving away two gift Elite Dangerous accounts for the two people who can run the route the fastest on video.
  • We welcome other guilds to provide their support. Please contact EIC to pledge your support!
Want an adventurous trade route, join us on the Silk Road. We welcome feedback on the Silk Road, as we would like to improve this for the community.
If you like this route, please consider donating to Child's Play.

Start a thread, (or use this one), to ask for bodyguards when running this route. Make it a bit harder for the pirates. :)

This sounds fantastic. I'm going to do a quick run of it now :) I want to be one of the first outside of the EIC to have done it following its announcement. Wish me luck.

In character version:

Commander Ydiss, part-time pilot of the Pilot's Federation, part-time father of three, entrepreneur, pathfinder and ranked dangerous for his combat mercenary and bounty hunting services to the galaxy, left the conflict in LHS 6309 today to embark on the newly announced Silk Road. Launching from Wilson Terminal in a custom-built, temporary Hauler, leaving his brand-new Fer-De-Lance in storage, he initially pondered on which ship in his fleet he should use for the journey.

"I realised the route would probably be full of fraking pirates and I've probably annoyed some of them on the Pilot's inter-galactic forum, so they'll be gunning for me," he said, commenting to one of our correspondents in the Wilson Terminal hangar, "but I decided against using my Python, which would have let me easily defend myself. I'm going all-out for this, the route deserves it."

Commander Ydiss is currently headed to his Trade Anaconda, docked hundreds of light years away. At this point, he'll plot a route to the nearest leg of the journey and his trade expedition will begin.

"The thing's got 452 tons of cargo space," he said, as he entered the Hauler "and if I get attacked I'll have to start throwing sticks."

More on the journey as we hear it.

Edit: Results here

We've already got pledges from other independent and even Federal player groups, that are going to be keeping an eye on this route. By making this public, we're encouraging not just traders and pirates, but bounty hunters, and metagamers to get more involved in a larger swath of space. This very, very profitable route covers a large distance, larger than your more conventional trade routes. 17 stations, over 473 light years. No one group can hope to control or interfere in such a large area. They'll have to focus on one or two specific stations, and even then, this list is malleable. It is very organic, and was constantly changing during development, and it will change going forward.

This is the greatest work to date in relation to the East India Company's founding ideal. To provide stable and overly profitable trade to players. Us sharing this with the community at large should prove our dedication to bettering Elite Dangerous's player base as a whole, and not just our own ranks. EIC member BugsBunny is owed the biggest thanks for spearheading this project and making it possible. I hope that this route brings profit and prosperity to all commanders who choose to use the information.

Lol announcing it like that itl be bled dry by tomorrow

I'm not so sure. I'm not doing this for the money (it's a lot less than my A to B trade route). I'm doing it for fun. And already I can see it's much less profit than announced, yet each station traffic report is very low. So I doubt this will get too many doing it.

I'll have to fire up the T6 and give this a whirl. It's been a long time since I've done any regular trading, could be fun!

Thanks for sharing!

This is a good initiative, but I'm a bit sad that we people have to make these routes ourselves, instead of them arising out of a complex economical simulation that rewards thought and analysis.
If a lot of people start to get on with this, I think that it will be a good thing for the game. We already have the PvP nests like Lave (which IMO shouldn't be a free PvP nest because it is a policed republic with several billion inhabitants and small interplanetary distances) but the large majority of systems are pretty much completely dead. This ''Silk road'' would be a great place for people that actually want to have a high possibility of interacting with other players, while still not just engaging in random PvP deathmatch.

Excellent, today I'll try together with my friend.
Well armed trader anacondas, but we gladly accept all protections or to wing up with another commanders during the trip.

Whilst generally opposed to the generation of capital for its own sake, Communism Interstellar is pleased to be able the demonstrate the quality and value of the workmanship of the honest comrades of HIP 9989 (Capek Orbital) and we pledge to protect traders visiting one of our show-piece systems. The People's Party of HIP 9989 welcome you all.
