The EIC is proud to announce: The Silk Road! A massive trade route for the whole community.

I've built a couple of triangular routes which are about the same in ROI, but they get boring. I might try this, but would prefer to do such discoveries myself.

I don't do trade tools as they break the game, but any tips on how to design such a route for myself with pen and paper?

all you need is time & patience.

pick a starting system. #1, needs larger stations & large population (decent supply, large landing pads)
find nearby systems that import something from system #1, but also export something in decent numbers. again - large stations, preferably close to main star
ensure the legality of each good you're picking up along the way to the next destination
eg:
hi-tech - buy consumer tech, progen cells, perf enhancers --->
agriculture system - buy tobacco, coffee, tea --->
extraction system - buy bertrandite, indite --->
refinery system - buy gold, silver, palladium --->
industrial system - buy computer components, weapons --->

you can change it up a bit.
industrial to agriculture, terrain enrichers / marine systems etc.
hi-techs pay well for gold, silver, palladium
lots of combined refinery/ extraction places
you might find the odd slave route...

keep away from anarchy systems, unless the station is super close to the star - less than 100ls.
repeat and repeat until you manage to circle back to your starting system

Good tips. I've reverse engineered and common sensed what exports/imports what, so the next step would be to string systems together. Sounds like more work than when you have a triangular route up and running, but at least I won't get bored out of my mind. Discovery of such routes by yourself is a reward in itself!

I ran this last night. Zero interdictions. Granted, I am in an Anaconda but still, you would think I would get interdicted by someone, NPC perhaps? Anyways, it is a fun run that took me to new stations and all were very near their jump-in stars. I made 7.5 million credits on the one run. Took me 2.5 hours but I wasn't in a hurry and went afk several times. I will do it again for sure.

Been running successful route myself for some time, but haven't tried this one yet....It's just a shame I'm near Sag A* and by the time I return to occupied space, the route probably won't be viable due to 1.3. I hope I'm wrong.

Remember, Powerplay only effects you if you opt-in by pledging for one of the powers. Otherwise you can go on playing as you always have.

**(I'm aware Powerplay will likely have knock-on effects on areas of the game such as certain markets etc, but wanted to emphasise its optional nature, you don't have to join a power.)

File is no longer available. Not sure what's up but an update would be nice.

Thats strange. Totally forgot about this thread till your post bumped it. I clicked on the url in the OP and the pdf file nicely opened. I downloaded it and its on my HD now. Tried to send you the file in a PM but it looks as if files can't be attached.
If you need the file, please send me a PM with your email address and I will send it to you.

I had the same issue. However I tried refreshing the browser page whilst it was in dropbox and the file popped in. Please try that and see if it works for you.
