Have your personalised Rare Good featured as a commodity in Elite: Dangerous!

Have you got an idea for a Rare Good that you'd love to see in game? Now you've got the chance to flex your creative muscles and put a suggestion forward for community vote.

To have your Rare Good considered for our short-list, reply with the following information in this forum thread below:

  • The name of your suggested Rare Good
  • A short description of the Rare Good
  • The system and starport where the Rare Good is located. This shouldn't be somewhere that already has a Rare Good.
  • Means to create - this would be community goals or goals which have to be completed to create the Rare Good. For example, if your proposed Rare Good is "Ekhi Antibiotics", then your means to create could be to deliver 10,000 tonnes of Basic Medicines to Ekhi Science Orbital.

Submissions will close on Sunday 19th July, for the development team to create a shortlist of entries. From Tuesday 21st July, you'll be able to vote for your favourite Rare Good, and the winning entry will appear in the game as part of the next major release. The poll will close on Sunday 26th July. We will contact all entries chosen for the shortlist via the email address associated with your forum account and a forum PM.

A couple of housekeeping points/requests:

- Please bullet point your responses, it will make it easier for us to navigate through the entries.
- Objectionable or offensive content will disqualified.
- Once the shortlist and winners have been selected, Frontier's decision is final. Frontier reserves the right to disqualify or remove entrants from the competition.

Thanks everyone, and good luck! We're excited to see what great ideas you come up with.

  • Short Description: Constructed under license by Nu Tauri G57 Speeders Ltd, these 6:1 scale landspeeders are modeled on the classic Faulcon DeLacy craft, designed for use in destruction derbies and surface drag racing. Light, compact & maneuverable - the iconic design and notoriously overpowered performance has made them popular with wealthy youths or thrillseekers throughout populated space.

  • Name of Rare Good: Hel’ish Mead

  • Description: Fermenting honey with water has been known for centuries and millenniums alike to have been produced in the old world africa, asia and europe and archaeologists dubbed it the “ancestor of all fermented drinks”. The vikings of old have been known for drinking it, as did the germanics in the archaic ages. So it it less of a surprise, when the the local inhabitants of Hel (named after the norse goddess of the underworld) where long known for their mastercrafted mead (that came in all kinds of sorts, from fruity to spicy). For a fact, the mead of hel, or “Hel’ish Mead” has become so popular, that the saying “To Hel with you!” is a toast within the rich youth of the empire and the federation. Hel’ish Mead has been a rare product so far, so rare, that only the very rich and sophisticated could afford this magnificent brew. Rumour has it although, that the population of Hel has recently increased their productivity to provide a higher supply (and therefore lower price) for their hefty drink.

  • System and Starport: Hel, Jones Orbital

  • Means to create: probably Water Purifiers, Power Generators, Slaves, Auto-Fabricaters, maybe eben Fruits and Vegetables. 20.000 each

* Name: Rhea Wine

* Description: Rhea Wine was accidentally created in 3300 to celebrate the turn of the century at a tavern in Ito Orbital. It was made when a drunk pilot combined the drinks of everyone at his table into one. Flabbergasted at how good it was, he brought it up to the bartender. After some refinement to the forumla, it was added to the menu of local taverns, where it became a huge hit. It is considered the unoffical drink of Felicia Winters supporters.

* Location: Ito Orbital in the Rhea system

* Means to create: Transport 10,000 tons of beer to Ito Orbital to begin mass production

Name of Rare Good:
Lavian grub incense

Short Description:
Spiritual incense made from the famous Lavian Grub. Following a long and complex procedure, the grub is dried, and its skin gratted after various chemicals were applied to it, then incense can be made with the powder. Lave / Warinus

Smuggle 10 000 tons of battle weapons to Warinus. (Hunting lavian grubs takes balls, especially when the authorities are after you)

The Secret Folio of a lost explorer

• The name of your suggested Rare Good

The Secret Folio of a lost explorer

• A short description of the Rare Good

This is the Secret Folio of a lost explorer

I set out from Burnet Horizons in search of adventure but got lost between the arms of the galaxy and ended up at Ellaisms qx-u e2-43

It was a beautiful sight that acted like a lighthouse in my dark travels and have put this message into all the empty bottles I have and jettisoned them out into the void in the hope that some of them make it make to civilization so that I didn’t die without others knowing of this gem in the dark of unexplored space

• The system and starport where the Rare Good is located.

System = Maohimr
Station = Burnet Horizons

• Means to create

To create this rare good, you would need to fly around the 110 Virgins system and collect the broken bottles and pieces of paper from unknown signal sources and deliver them to Burnet Horizons.

Once 5,000 tons of paper and broken bottles are collected, the community goal is complete.

The rare goods is a duplicate of the message in a bottle as a memorial.

Name of Rare Good: rum

System & Starport: Harma Gabriel Enterprise
Means to Create:Grain

- Name: Sothis Ammonia Aquariums

- Description: Ultra-exotic ammonia-based life displayed as a self-sustaining "biosphere" sealed within a temperature-controlled crystal globe. (Requires occasional sunlight.) If viewed with only the naked eye, the contents of some aquariums are not much more than an odd cloudy mixture, but their exclusivity and alien nature ensures demand from museums, collectors, and corporate foyers.

- System & Starport: Sothis system, Newholm Station

- Means to Create: 5000 Detailed-Surface-Scans of any planets that contain ammonia-based life.

"Seeking a boost to trade in their distant and beleaguered economy, a group within the Sothis system is turning their unique ecological expertise (gained through their considerable terraforming experience) towards creating a new and distinctive product - attractive and low-maintenance living displays of the most exotic lifeforms ever discovered; ammonia-based life. Progress has been considerable, but ammonia life is poorly understood and much more data from ammonia-based ecologies is needed. Detailed surface scans of planets harboring any kind ammonia-based life will greatly assist the project, and the Sirius Corporation has sponsored generous rewards for any such data sold to the Newholm Station branch of Universal Cartographics."

Unique experiences from this Community Goal:
- Ammonia life is something that encourages genuine specific searching. The best ways to search are also still unknown and open to ideas - anyone who wants to be on the forefront of theory and practice can become a leading light.
- Because a pilot can only sell a surface scan once, yet everyone is benefited by more scans being obtained, many people participating in the community goal will share their ammonia-life discoveries with each other so that each planet can be scanned by as many ships as possible. Some people might even devise ammonia-scan routes, similar to elaborate rares-trading routes.
- As pilots seek to search more efficiently, some people will start examining in detail the conditions and situations likely to support ammonia life. They will share and hone and test their findings, and the popular understanding of the astronomy of the galaxy will increase.

In order to restart full operations Jet Legal & Co. will require 10 million tonnes of Superconductors and Beryllium delivered to Piserchia Port in Alignak.

Name of Rare Good: Kokojina Computer Personality Pod

Short Description: KCPPs allow the addition of an interactive, intelligent computer controller and thus come in several sizes. The smallest models could fit in a toaster although why you'd want a talking toaster has never been explained. Through to the largest roughly equivilent in size to a fully grown human brain. Some owners of KCPPs claim that the Computer Personality Pods have a tendancy to become depressed, melencholic or even addicted to certain cargo vapours on long cargo runs; and overly gung-ho when affixed to vessels seeing regular combat.

System & Starport: Kokojina - Ali Ring

Means to Create: Computer Components

Name: Bonded Polycarbide Armour (in short, a Dalek shell – alternative name: Bonded Polycarbonate Armour)

Description: Following a radioactive accident, the Bonded Polycarbide Armour was invented both to treat those injured and protect people working in radioactive environments. Despite being somewhat bug-eyed, they are now popular throughout the galaxy in hazardous environments, as well as amongst collectors. There are rumours of possible military applications with one of the "arms" appearing to be capable of firing an intense radioactive blast. The makers of the armour insist it is useful for mining only, but the rumours persist.

System and Spaceport: Tilian, Maunder’s Hope

Means to Create:

Polymers – 1,000,000 tonnes
Superconductors – 1,000,000 tonnes
Computer Components – 1,000,000 tonnes
Semiconductors – 1,000,000 tonnes

Additional:

Normally 1 unit per player, 2 if allies.

With the goal achieved, increase to between 3 and 5 units per player

Cost: 25,000 per unit
Value: 30,000 per unit rising to 50,000 (60,000 at Sol, Achenar + 2 other military worlds)

Maunder’s Hope is a poor, tiny populace. As the goal is met, it will end up as a rich, medium population depending on tier.

Name of Rare Good: Sweat from the Emperor's Brow

Short Description: Sweat gathered from the Emperor (praise his name) 's Brow by his personal sweat slaves, using a blunt silver scraper to gather the drops into a silver bowl. Each slave has their own personal bowl and scraper. Collecting the sweat is considered an act of veneration to the Emperor, and major families attempt to gather more than their rivals, all kept in replica collection bowls, with silver lids. The commodity increases in value as normal, but only within Empire space - once outside Empire space the value is the same as the silver it is kept in.

System & Starport: on Capitol in the Achenar system

Name of Rare Good: Printed Literature (Books, very low buy price)
Short Description: In Memory to the very beginning of human civilization, there is still demand for literature written and printed on paper, an organic material. On earth there is a tradition since the 24th century to let children learn reading with printed books. This tradition is believed to have its origins in the first years after world war three, where people learned the value of non electronically stored information. Books can tell knowledge, stories, history or art created by language or even contain pictures and illustrations. They are very popular around the galaxy.
System & Starport: SOL; Li Qing jao
Means to Create: 10.000 tonnes of Food (raised demand for algae, fish, wine and tea), the more delivered, the more available

Name of Rare Good: Vinyl records
Short Description: This is an ancient form of analogue data storage. In the end of the second millennium, they were used to record music, where read only and required record players. Even if some people today still use record players and would never erase and rewrite them, it is no problem today. Any home computer can scan and reform the surface. The advantages of this old technology are many. Data can be hidden, where no one looks for it, the material is very resistant and cheap and easy to synthesise. Usually vinyl comes in black, but different colours are possible. After being forgotten for nearly a century they had their revival after the third world war. Sirius Corp still uses high density disks to store cartographic data.
System & Starport: Parenni; Alvares City
Means to Create: 10,000 tonnes of polymers, the more delivered, the more become available.

• Name of Rare Good: Iota Geminorum Tribble

• Short Description: Iota Geminorum IV was the planet in the long lost Iota Geminorum system. This was the homeworld of the tribble. Reptiles were the natural predators of tribbles on this world, and were known to keep the tribble population in check, which over a century ago made the tribbles almost extinct on there homeworld, shortly afterwards, the system was destroyed by the sun going supernova. Although small numbers still exist in some outer rim systems, taken there by some unscrupulous traders before the loss of the homeworld.
Long ago these surviving tribbles were genetically modified to reduce there breeding prowess, and now are a rare and exotic, sought after item.
