The Elite Time Capsule Thread!

Hello people of the future!

It's always funny to read predictions about the future and stories from the past, so, just for a laugh, please make your predictions about what the Elite universe and gameplay will look like in 5, 10 or 20 years time!!

Don't forget to put a reminder in your calendar to re-read this thread in 2034!

Feel free to throw in any other predictions, especially those about real space exploration and space sims/gaming in general.

How about leaving a story about life now or a picture of your ultra modern PC setup. You may even want to pass on some words of wisdom or just say hi to your future self!

Enjoy the ride! :)

Couldn't resist.

Okay, here we go:

2019 - Frontier today announce that players have still only discovered 12% of the playable regions in the game.

Late 2014:

Elite: Dangerous released to much high acclaim after a relatively short gamma release. Best game of the year award is given to Dragon Age 3, despite it garnering much criticism, huge backlash occurs with some big name magazines readership dropping alarmingly.

Elite's Micro-transaction store opens, with the top selling item being the David Braben bobblehead closely followed by Michael Brookes (who somehow managed to have his carry an axe). Other items include decals, "colour crystals" to change the colour of the laser beams.

Early 2015:

Frontier announce plans to release the "Avatar Pack" later this year. They found the ability to land on planets, without any way of exiting the ship to take too much away from the experience.

The merchandise store now actually carries real David Braben bobbleheads. these sale out within three hours of going on sale and sightings occur throughout the world. Sightings even occur in both Arctic regions as well as high on the Atacama region of Chile.

Late 2015

Planetary Expansion pack to be released sometime in March 2016, people laugh and assume this means late 2016.

2016:

Planetary expansion releases, a single player drives a unique procedurally generated species extinct on a planet. A movement, similar to the WWF, forms to try to protect unique flora and fauna on planets where life exists. Despite this effort, extinctions continue to occur and even animal/fauna transplants start to wreak havoc across discovered space. The idea to create zoos is floated.

An old favourite, the Moray Starboat enters the game as one planet is predominately covered in water and features underwater cities. Two other unique submersible ships launch. We can only visit the underwater cities and not yet able to leave them yet, that's coming in a future patch.

PG becomes a much bigger "thing" now, rather than just a lazy way to tick a box on a features list.

2017:

David Braben interviewed by Neil De Grasse Tyson who happens to be wearing an Elite T-shirt. Neil DeGrasse Bobbleheads appear in the MT and merchandise stores.

A David Braben bobblehead spotted on the International Space Station.

2018:

The first combined space game expo at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, many developers show their wares and highlight upcoming features and games. NASA and other space agencies also in attendance, it proves to be a huge hit.

You think players will discover 8 million systems a day?

Edit: Correction 80 million systems a day. That's 926 per second for 4 years!

2019- The smash hit of SC has waned off and most people, unable to play it at a decent framerate or getting sick due to bad synch in their Oculus CV3, leave the game.
ED sees a big increase of users by the same time. By then, 6% of the Milky Way has been "visited".
Only three Thargoid contacts confirmed. One of the sources swears it smelled like apple pie.

10 years time we won't need to post in forums, AI will do it for us.

20 years time the technological singularity will be in full effect and most of us will be dead.

There's still time.

20 years from now all us old timers will be in nursing homes, or retired on some island with no internet connection. Thargoids sense the complete lack of interested humanity and take over the galaxy. The End.

;)

I doubt you will find a place with no internet connection in 20 years :)

Within 20 years:
I suspect E: D will have had a graphics update.
Humanity will be in a full on war with the Thargoids (Or maybe an even bigger threat). The Federation, Alliance and Empire will have to work together to survive.
Players will be able to pilot capital ships and issue orders to fleets as part of the military career path.
Players will be able to own warehouses, factories, starports etc.

Q4 2014 Elite official launch
Q4 2015 planetary landing expansion released
2016 Free update, walk about" see the interior of the ships space stations and planetary exploration.
2017 2nd expansion released " The Thargoid Encounter"
2018 3rd expansion released " New Encounters" new alien race contacts added.
2020 4th expansion released "Faction wars" empire, federation and Alliance go to full on war for territory, galaxy map now being fully dynamic with players being able to influence the map.

Not seeing why all the SC bashing is necessary in this thread.

PS. Not an SC backer.

Definately light-hearted and of the moment.

PS. SC backer at an amount that would have got me into ED Alpha, and then some. I feel my opinion, if frivilous, is valid as I have given up my hard earned credits to both camps.
