The elusive T9

I'm writing these lines as I wait for a T9 to appear in my contacts list.
And yes, this is another post for the piracy activity :)

For the past 10 days, I made pirating NPCs my prime in-game activity. First got the "bug" from this excellent forum post. Then, with the information at hand I equipped my trusty Python and opened my galaxy map looking for agriculture systems under boom state.

Well, I'm telling you... it's not an easy business. There are many unknown factors that influence the number of miners a system can spawn. Pairing agriculture systems with any of the other system identities, like refinery or industrial, doesn't seem to help at all. An in-system civil war doesn't seem to alter the spawn rate of miners either. The only ones I started avoiding are the powerplay systems. The game seems to spawn all kinds of powerplay ships in them and I think that gives you worse chances to get a T9 with a refinery.

My 2 best systems so far had only 1 station to a distance of 100Ls to 500Ls, they were at boom and with high population.
I take position behind the station, in a straight line with the star, so I don't need to move my ship to get their scans. After I see 2 T9s without a refinery, I drop from SC to reset the contacts and back to waiting hehh

At least WHEN you find one, you can alert any nearby friends and offer him a duplicate T9 (after he too, scans its high-wake). That's a feature I wouldn't want to lose... just in case the devs want to correct that behavior of the game and they read this post [where is it]

Few random details.... I carry only 2 medium pulse gimbals and 2 medium canon gimbals. I use a 5A shield generator and that gives me 224 cargo space (that means around 11-12 million cr). Thrusters, FSD, shields and shield boosters are engineered. Weapons are vanilla (using higher damage weapons I had too many ships blowing up, while I was trying to kill their powerplant). I have bookmarked a good outpost near the hunt area, which pays fair money for the diamonds.

One question regarding the last detail.... The outposts controlling faction is aligned with the Federation. I thought I saw my fed rank (post commander) go up after 3 diamonds sales but since that day, no matter how many loads I sell now there's no difference. Does selling diamonds to a black market increase your rank with the aligned power?

Oh, and does the sensors rating play a role on the distance you can see ships in sc?

I hope this post will start a conversation, with more tips added regarding the efficiency of the profession. And share your experiences with the process of finding the "perfect" system please :)

Nice to see that Diamond heisting is becoming very popular.

Together we can change the game remember.....

Now then, here's a tip recently unearthed. When staking out a hunting ground, Try screening systems out that have terminals or outposts. This way you should reduce the number of small ship miners. If the only places to land all accept big ships theoretically this means more big ships should spawn.

I believe SC scanning is not determined by scanner type. Speed may help. The faster you are going the more void you can cover. I circle above the orbital plane around 50xC and this means I can drop down into my target very rapidly. Also I think if you are stopped USS may not spawn. Not sure if this applies to ships.

Finally with selling the diamonds use a tool like eddb to find high demand systems in boom.

Good hunting Pirate!

nice read - thanks for sharing some details! i hope, low temperature piracy is still a thing when i'm back in the bubble.

selling goods increases your REPUTATION with the station controlling faction and its superpower, it DOES NOT INCREASE YOUR RANK.
