The Emperor is DEAD!
.
If not, he will be very shortly!
.
Why?.... FD have sort of shot themselves in the foot with this backstory of the Emperor and his fluctuating health!
One minute he is sick, next in a coma, then he is poisoned, then he is awake and raring to get back to work (not that he's supposedly exerted himself much over recent decades, what with his Chamberlain running the entire show!)
Sooo...... the canon and background story of Elite Dangerous and previous editions is very important to some players/commanders, which leaves us with the following:
.
The Emperor, if he survives, is probably the most important person in the Elite Dangerous galaxy (BTW I'm a Federation Commander) so he would obviously be one of the "Powers" in Power Play. There we have a problem; FD have said there will only be 10 powers, (Now shown as incorrect!) we already have the ten. So no room at present for another one. (Not unless we have another "Arissa falls off a cliff" scenario) The Emperor "recovering" when there are no vacancies in Power Play, does NOT bode well for his continued good health, improving or otherwise! We have also never seen a picture of his Imperialness, have we???? (my guess is; he is really already residing on another plane of existence or will be very, very shortly!)
.
Long Live The Emperor........or perhaps not!:p

I'm pretty sure Frontier said there can be up to 20 active Powers operating in the Galaxt at any given time...

Maybe he'll pick a favorite daughter and side with her. If he becomes a power though, what empire power wouldn't immediately bask in his glory and stand down?

I don't know that he has a reasonable place in power play, and if he appears it's just going to further reinforce the notion that the empire won't oppose each other.

....wait, he's the emperor, why even bother with this power play nonsense in the first place?

He's a distributed entity with his core cells stored in a vat somewhere. (The picture would be a bit yech.) But they're working to virtualise him and he will again bestride the galaxy like the Phoenix.

At this point the Empire will GIVE AWAY Clippers to EVERYONE. Bask in His Greatness.

Hell no, that would be stupid from him : it would be the best way to put himself at risk.
Someone in his position would keep playing chess with its pawns, scheming while staying away from the political battlefield.
Did any of you guys read Dune?? ^^

Gooooooood point!!!!

I would imagine being a power would be beneath the Emperor.
If HIM is up and about will the wedding proceed, will DeLavigny really become a Duval?

Or perhaps the Emperor is the puppet master playing each of the power play factions against each other, thereby keeping them all occupied and not ganging up on him.

Senator Patreus is still figuring out the dosage is all. It has to be enough to kill him, but without leaving enough chemicals in his blood to be traced back to him. Once he's got it sussed old man Emperor will pass on.

Using the Eastenders formula of good news / bad news pretty soon someone is going to cop it.

Either that or Ian Beale is going to be a PP leader.....cue credits music

I've been thinking there's another reason why the Emperor won't survive and is possibly already dead: if the Emperor lives, he'll supercede Arissa Lavigny. Her entire platform is that she's carrying out the Emperor's will and continuing his policies, that's she's defending his sovereignty. Her capital is Achenar. If he recovered and became a Power Arissa would have to step back - after all, Achenar is the Emperor's capital, not hers, and if he was speaking for himself then she doesn't have to take a stand on his behalf any more.

Also, rather ominously, we have not heard anything further about the Emperor's condition since that announcement that he was getting better. Why the sudden silence? I have a feeling that the "good news" was put out in order to soothe everyone's fears and stop people asking questions, when in actual fact the Emperor has died and Chancellor Blaine is stalling for time so the succession can be secured and the funeral planned.

nah!.... he'll become a tramp again and wander the allotments...

... in the meantime it's all a bit naff.... FDev can't fix the obvious ... up... so instead give out rank barred ships to everyone

I wonder if they will give out Corvettes if Hudson recovers from a slight sniffle... might as well

In the meantime run and grab guys.... they (in this case... the Emp) normally have a uplift in health before a relapse and death.... about 7 - 10 days...... enjoy :)

Haven't followed the news, but in ancient Rome there were alwys rumours about, running through the pleb masses, army and even the patrician families.

"Oh, did you hear, the emperor is ill? Might die soon. My cousin's third aunt has a sister who scrubs floors in his villa."

There is a battle where the ERE Basileos left to go to the thermas, thinking his legions would maul the besieged slavs and bolghars at Ongala, and his army basically retreated, because someone started a rumour that he was ill and was going to die soon. Dude just wanted to take a proper bath and leave the warfare to his generals, and look what it got him.

Obviously information would flow much more freely in the year 3000 but remember, that information and misinformation is a tool of war just like any other.
