The Empire could have a really bad day sometime soon

I decided that I'd have a wander around this evening and went to the Pipe stem sector to see what was there after seeing on Spansh that there is a massive gap of neutron stars all the way split directly down the middle of the galaxy, making the map look like some kind of weird brain scan. Seriously, go check it out. https://www.spansh.co.uk

Anyway on my return trip to the bubble, I saw a new community goal at Prism so I figured I'd go have a looksee to see what the fuss is all about.
On my way I jumped into a system ICZ CQ-Y c8 that has this

Empire space is going to have a really bad day soon. Those 4 stars (dual binaries) are all decaying/dying. Both sets are stupidly close to each other and if one pair collides or supernova's or whatever. I can see the rest going up too. Not sure if it'd cascade but the distances aren't that far so I could see it happening.

Even worse is if one of the stars has enough mass to black hole itself, it'll swallow the others and that'll be a really bad day for anyone within LY of that system.

Fortunately for the Empire, stars can simply merge to become one bigger star. No need for a supernova, unless there is a massive star involved. In that case, when one star goes nova the others are thrown clear (perhaps losing much of their mass).

From the image you posted, it doesn't seem like they are massive stars, so novas are unlikely. If a supernova were to occur though....well, give that area a wide berth!

It'd be a very cool in game event if it did happen, though in stellar timescales I doubt it would.

You know I didn't even think about the stars merging...

i wonder if it would be possible to jump to the system days/weeks/months after nova explosion and survive.

You can already approach some of the galaxy's most powerful sources of x-ray and gamma radiation at below one light second, which is approximately the distance between Earth and Moon. 34th century spaceships seem to be the metaphorical cockroaches in terms of durability and survivability.
