The Engineer Everyone Needs

Love 'em or Hate 'em, Horizons brought us The Engineers.

They do.. things to our ships. Usually things we want, sometimes things we don't.

And there's even been at least one thread calling for space-based Engineers for Everyone.

I'm still going to have to side with "No, buy Horizons."

HOWEVER...

I would suggest strongly a singular Engineer, perhaps stationed at Hutton Orbital or some other far-out, pain-to-get-to location who can offer up a few basic modifications that could and should be available to everyone.

Allow me to introduce: That Guy

That Guy would be unique among Engineers, because he would not modify ship modules, but rather integrated systems, without the Random Factor that the other Engineers inflict upon us.

So what does That Guy have to offer?

1. Five full grades of Material Storage improvements:
G1 - Upgrade to 1200 Materials
G2 - Upgrade to 1500 Materials
G3 - Upgrade to 1800 Materials
G4 - Upgrade to 2000 Materials
G5 - Upgrade to 2500 Materials

2. Ship/SRV Light Upgrades
G1 - 10% Brightness Increase
G2 - 15% Brightness Increase
G3 - 20% Brightness Increase
G4 - 25% Brightness Increase
G5 - 30% Brightness Increase
With a random chance of beam color-change, or cash in a Favor to pick a specific color.

3. Heat Resistant Wiring
G1 - 5% Resistance to Modular Heat Damage
G2 - 8% Resistance to Modular Heat Damage
G3 - 10% Resistance to Modular Heat Damage
G4 - 12% Resistance to Modular Heat Damage
G5 - 15% Resistance to Modular Heat Damage

A little improvement so our consoles don't erupt in sparks quite so easily and modules can take a bit more heat before being damaged.

4. Improved Heat Dissipation
G1 - 2% More Heat Loss
G2 - 5% More Heat Loss
G3 - 9% More Heat Loss
G4 - 12% More Heat Loss
G5 - 15% More Heat Loss

After fuel-scooping, warming yourself to nice shade of orange with weapons, or being warmed by someone else, you just bleed off heat a bit faster.

Nothing galaxy-shaking, no massive change to the combat systems, but all things we do not have, would benefit from, and might just serve to tempt more people into picking up Horizons to further modify their ship's actual systems. Plus it's something else to do with all those various materials we collect, including ones with no other use at the moment.

Thoughts?

Fuel Scoop Engineer at Jaques Station, so my Diamondback can finally suck... in a good way. :)

I'd be fine with one on the surface of a world out in Colonia too though.

But yeah, buy Horizons if you want to play the game... (Apologies to Mac users.)

Oh, and FYI: I'm currently closer to the opposite side of the bubble from Colonia, heading out to the Skull and Crossbones Nebula, so I think it's a worthy enough challenge/reward to have an Engineer located in Jaques Station.

That would be Bill Turner or Lori Jameson.

Unfortunately the only mod for Fuel Scoops is "Shielded" which is pretty much worthless, because who puts any effort into shooting out a Fuel Scoop?

Great ideas for upgrades! Have some rep.

But why do so many people want to suffer from features in ED? Why do you want players to supercruise for hours to get to That Guy? I'll never get it.
Things like that dont make the game harder, just annoying.

Then they need a scooping speed mod... [blah]

But thanks for the info. I haven't been out to Colonia since the Repair Jaques Station CG, but plan on stopping by again sooner or later.

A little work is good for the soul.

Scooping speed is a factor of the size of the scoop. But a Thermal Resistance mod would be blessing - so we don't heat up as much or as fast when scooping.

The largest scoop you can get for the Diamondbacks is half that or less in proportion to most all other ships, making them very inefficient exploration ships. Pet peeve of mine.

I also generally prefer shields over scoop size on my Eagles, so with one of them I'm stuck at stars much longer than I'd prefer. Ironically, on that one I also have a tier 5 FSD range mod on an undersized FSD to save weight. [hehe]

I'm not sure how the wiring and heat dispersion would be balance wise, but I absolutely want more material storage space. If anything I would say leave the 2 first ones as less than 500 and bump the rest up, so the ending value is 3,000 materials. SRV lights would be another quality of life improvement.

That's the efficient power plant mod which improves your ship's entire power efficiency coefficient.

I just want someone who can clean my windscreen :(

Tell me about it. I dare you to tell me how far I was ok that star. Just look at the info reticule in the following image... at least, if you can find it LOL

G5 cable management mod for those poor souls who bought a brand new Anacaonda and had the misfortune to look up.

that's nothing, left side furthest counsel, no seat.

left and right seat, two qwerty keyboards in front of them, either the ships employed two small children standing up, or the users of those seats had very very long arms..... j/k

Overall excellent idea. However, you forgot that he should offer some SSDs or USB sticks to increase the data storage. Really, how much GB does something like a Wake Scan require?
