The engines of different category

I do not know if this subject was already approached, then excuse me, if it is the case.

If I remember correctly, in FE2, the engines of different category (class 1, 2 and 3) and engine of military class, allow an improvement of the distance of the jump hyperspace, and a decrease of the consumption of fuel.

The engines of differents category, should also act on the capacities of acceleration, on the capacities of deceleration, and top speed and other characteristics ?

we kind of know we are getting more than one hyperspace drive due to the 'long range cobra' mentioned as one of the starter rewards in the KS, it is a hyperspace engine though so i doubt it will have any effect on standard sublight travel but i would like to see some variation in the top speed of the ships in normal space depending on the set up you have.

As I recall one major disadvantage of the Military drives in FE2 & FFE was that they produced radioactive waste which you had to immediately jettison on arrival in a system and hope you didn't get a fine for illegal dumping or pay a fine for having them on board in the first place as radioactives were considered illegal in quite a few, if not all, planetary systems.

Unless my memory fails me it was not quite like that.

Yes, the byproduct of military drives was radioactive waste, and it required military fuel to function. But the radioactive waste could be "sold" at a negative price (you paid for it), illegally dumped or you could let them stay - but it would cut on your available cargo space, so this last option was limited.

On the topic, while I can't remember if this issue was discussed on the DDF, I expect several different types of engines to be available in game, with impact on hyperspace range and "normal" flying behavior, I doubt it will be the rather simple classification/variety of Frontier.

I think the hyperdrive and thrusters are two separate systems. So jump range would not necessarily affect maneuverability and acceleration in normal flight. So you just need to upgrade two different systems AFAIK.

Also your ships reactor / power plant might affect your acceleration your thrusters can deliver, or how much power you can divert.

Thank you to everyone for the comments ----

In FE2 there were also two separate systems. The hyperdrive, and thrusters.
But the hyperdrive was always the same. Only the thrusters, according to the chosen class, allowed a variable distance of jump. Regardless of the class of thrusters, the speeds of acceleration and the speeds of deceleration did not change. We will see, the times come, the specifications.
