The Enzyme Missile Rack is the worst weapon in the game.

The Enzyme Missile Rack is, by a huge margin, the worst designed weapon in the game.

The Enzyme Missile Rack is a dumbfire missile that deals a damage over time caustic burn effect, instead of straight damage. The main missile deals 5 damage, while the burn effect deals an additional 1.5 damage per second for 60 seconds. This effect does not stack.

What is the purpose of dumbfire missiles? They're basically module shredders. They deal great damage to external modules in a large area, making it very easy to kill enemy thrusters or weapons. In addition to this, they deal high damage for relatively low distributor draw. One class 2 missile rack deals 50 damage every two seconds.

In addition to this, missiles deal EXPLOSIVE damage, which gets a 40% damage bonus against default hulls. So rather than just 50 damage, against a standard hull, you're looking at an impressive 70 damage per shot. This gives you great burst damage potential.

In return for this strength, they have relatively low ammo capacity, and most importantly, are quite slow and can be dodged or shot down by point defense.

Now, lets contrast this with the Enzyme Missiles. They have every single downside of standard dumbfire missiles, except they cannot deal significant module damage, as their caustic effect does not harm internals. They cannot stack the caustic effect, so you're effectively limited to one shot every 60 seconds, so they also lack any burst damage potential. And the caustic effect cannot even be applied to a shielded ship, so unlike Missiles, which can at least be used at reduced effectiveness to break shields, they're completely useless against a shielded enemy.

The player is essentially trading a hardpoint for 1.5 caustic damage per second AFTER the enemy's shields are down - and shields are the most durable part of an enemy!

And this is why I say that the Enzyme Missile Rack is the worst weapon ever designed. It has all the downsides of a normal dumbfire missile rack with absolutely no upsides at all.

Worst of all? You have to unlock it with relatively difficult to acquire thargoid materials!

Come on, Fdev. Fix this pathetic, pathetic weapon.

Don't anyone dare mention the advanced multicannon to @DemiserofD

They do have one perk; they can be engineered.

For example, engineered for Long Range, they can shoot eight kilometers, so you can snipe thargoids from well out of their maximum range. And because they're not experimental weapons, you can put an extra three on most ships in addition to your gauss cannons.

Enzyme Missiles have no redeeming traits.
