General / Off-Topic The Expanse - Babylon 5 for grown-ups!

I really like The Expanse. The world portrayed in the novel is one of such beautiful contrast and I think the Series caprures this well.I am ever so slightly dissappointed in S2 compated to S1 in terms of what seems to be the level of attention to detail, but the scope has increased so I can excuse some dropoff in resolute accuracy.Wonderfully dark, strong acting ( I forgot herr name, the actress from ST Beyond) definitely my favourite. Whilst visual cgi is never a selling point for me, I can very well identify and appreciate the talebt and effort that has gone into this as a whole.

Just to be clear, I enjoyed B5 for several series but lost interest before the end, partly due to some awful acting (I'm looking at you Jason Carter). The thread title is a bit click baity I will admit!

Firefly is for me possibly the greatest Sci-Fi show of all time and the reason I tend not to watch US shows until they have a couple of series completed. I'm fed up with interesting shows being cancelled before they have really got going (Dark Skies, Invasion, Surface to name a few).

Absolutely love Thomas Jane in this show, possibly because of his Jim Bob from Carter USM hair,

I have Netflix, but don't see Expanse Season 2 or Star trek.
I watched season 1 Expanse, free a year or 2 ago and look forward to free stream of season 2 ,but not found. Is Star Trek Linked to a cable provider (needed)?

I'm a Netflix virgin so no idea if it's locked in certain regions. I'm in the UK and have two seasons of The Expanse and the new Star Trek series available.

Hibachi, the only living alien in New Cross.

+1 for The Expanse! Great show and really well translated from the books too!

Babylon 5 and Firefly were basically the best, for entirely different reasons!

Worst news

Dark Matter got cancelled

Awwww man! A whole bunch of fun actors I like were in there! Plus it's on Netflix here in Canada (unlike Discovery)

IIRC, content varies by country. So, for example, in the US the new series of Star Trek is on CBS Access; internationally, it's on Netflix (along with the entire TV back catalogue, including the animated series - but not the movies, which are owned by a different company and not included in the licensing agreement).

Oh, and there are stranger things than you in New Cross. In fact, I used to know a few Dr Who fans around that area, as well as a professor of literature from Albuquerque.

The reason you check it out is because it's nothing like regular SG.

Was hooked on SGU, regular SG didn't grab me. Low ratings killed it according to Craig Engler, senior VP and GM of SyFy.

I caught some SGU a couple of years ago. To be honest, I think that Stargate (as a franchise) was doing the same thing that post-'87 Star Trek did - running so long that it isn't special any more, close to burning out despite some really stunning ideas, and so mythology-laden that it isn't always newbie-friendly - but I got hooked on SGU. Wonderful concept that would pretty much stand alone, great production values, a really nice arc, and top-notch casting. Especially Robert Carlyle. I'd love to see it back.

Apologies for the double post, but just so you folks know...

Pick TV - Sky's free-to-air offering, on UK Freeview - is currently repeating Babylon 5, weeknights at 8pm. Tonight they're up to 1x03 "Born to the Purple". So if anyone fancies it...

Liked SGU too, was refreshing and different.
