Probably one of the best sci-fi shows since Battlestar Galactica, The Expanse, is getting canceled.

I'm sure there are plenty of Elite Dangerous CMDRs that watch it while in deep space.

Currently the fanbase is trying its best through a petition (81k signatures) towards Amazon to pick it up: https://www.change.org/p/amazon-or-netflix-please-buy-the-rights-to-the-expanse-savetheexpanse

Yeah, fan traction doesn't have any value to the bean counters at networks. Those fans should have been contributing to to Syfy's ratings if they wanted the show to go on.

I wouldnt worry. It should go on, based on the streaming numbers, where it has made a roaring success.

It reminds me of when The proposed Dark Materials trilogy was terminated with The Golden Compass, because New Line had sold the non-us distribution rights to another company, who made a massive in comparison return on their investment due to the problematic nature of the series in the US Bible belt.

“We are very disappointed the show will not be returning to Syfy,” said Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

“We respect Syfy’s decision to end this partnership but given the commercial and critical success of the show, we fully plan to pursue other opportunities for this terrific and original IP.”

Hopefully this is not the end. 100% best sci-fi cyberpunk series that i ever have seen. [up]

I think it is important to understand that series where financed by creator, and it had SyFy deal which made back some of it's money, but I suspect with good shoping around (and considering how strong series are), they can get enough clout to give two seasons to finish it up.

As for SyFy picking up series in first place was strange move, because they have moved away from sci-fi crowd and have no interest to retain it.

Industry knowhows doubt Netflix involvement, as they have at least three space sci-fi series going on. However it depends how much Expanse is viewed on Netflix (I am subbing and would support Netflix buying rights to two more seasons), and how much it would cost.

Anyway, this is not your regular cancelation, so there's chance it will find new home.
