Hi Guys...
Just had an idea... I watched the force awakens a while back, and something struck me...

Now... just imagine for a moment that FD "Puzzle blocked" the entire Galaxy... Into all different shapes. Each nebula would have its own blocks with all related stars in it, and so and so forth. Ok? That's the first point.
Next, we have a separate ADVANCED exploration station (Under the pretence that its kept away from the cockpit to avoid pilot distraction)
Preferably amidships like this...
http://imgur.com/RULNdIx ...but a wee bit more advanced!
(And preferably covered in bottles of Arcturan rum, and clutter in general! After all, what good is a ship when we can walk around it later on that does nothing? Hell, FD can sell us clutter like that. Id buy it! (Anyone for drunken pirate clutter, makes your ship looked lived in and crap for $10?)
Onwards. Frontier obtain the EDSM site. [woah]
And integrate it into our very own on-board Exploration station!
We can see all discovered systems - and for a in-game fee, obtain detailed info on a system. The credits are transferred to the discoverer. We will also have many tools at our disposal. Vectors, Night sky from surface, bookmarks, distances...drift calculation - everything an aspiring explorer could want. Even our bookmarks could be traded for example. Its like a one stop shop for explorers.
We can then fully map sector blocks. These can then be used not by us as such...but by FD. Why?
One word. Missions.
That sector blocks information belongs to you. Say you have a block near to newly inhabited space. Patreus wants to expand. (FD know who owns what) but you are a pilot for the Feds. You get an ingame message asking you to hand over the data (Which you can do via the Exploration station) But you refuse! The Feds have already offered you more.
Thus you are hunted. But hanging on to the data increases its value to the federation. You are beaten senseless, but manage to hand the data over to a trusted friend who then brings it to Core fed world...You both share the profits!
Another mechanic would be Waypoints. Later on when Aliens become known, you might have charted safe passage through their space. You can sell all related waypoints to any Military for a fortune. (Related blocks within permit sectors would have to work differently, yes.)
Salome goes missing... Again. But you are one of the few who has actually paid attention to where she has been. The Canonn will have to fork out!
And, finally...like in the star wars reference above, you might be one of the few people to have fully mapped far multiple blocks. A eminent person disappears somewhere there... and you also have to option to withdraw your data from the database. This goes into the form of a data cache in your ship. Ship gets destroyed, someone else can pick it up...

What do you guys think?
