Hi guys. Thought I would make a fun thread. Post a picture of your CMDR & give us a summary of who he/she/it is, beginning with "This is the face of..."

I will post mine later. It's a little warm at the moment and turning the PC on is a pain because I sit right next to where all the heat is. I'm in the process of cooling my room down.

This is the face of Indigo, at least the only face most of you will ever see. Rumors abound about what's under that helmet - from "Just-the-average-Joe" to "Spiders! Millions of Frelling Spiders!". Few have seen what is under this mask, and those who have do not speak of what they have seen. Indigo, a call-sign, was battle-born in the truest sense of the phrase. His father was an Imperial officer. His mother a noble of a small house. With child due at any day, his parents took their leave, so that Indigo might be born at place of some significance to them. But fate had other plans.

Just outside of Imperial space their ship was attacked by pirates. Though his father was a capable pilot in his own right, numbers were against them. While many pirate ships were destroyed, their own ship suffered catastrophic damage. His mother suffered even more catastrophic damage - cut nearly in half by an exploding bulkhead, spilling an unborn child - battle-born, onto a crumbling deck. With the ship's reactor going critical, his father managed to place the child into an escape pod, along with his Imperial signet ring, and launch the pod just seconds before the ill-fated ship was destroyed.

The pod was picked up by a deep space rescue team, and the child was adopted by a family at small colony. Despite efforts made, the signet ring could not be identified, and the child's history was all but lost. As a boy, Indigo attended school, then went on to earn several advanced degrees in electronics, aerospace mechanics, linguistics and physics. As a young man he worked on a loading dock, loading and unloading freight and cargo from ships making port at his adopted home. He never considered life among the stars, nor had any particular desire to be a pilot. But fate again conspired against him. When war came to his adopted home, he stole a ship, believed to be a Viper, and engaged the enemy. He found piloting to come naturally, and combat to be almost second nature. He shot down many enemy craft that day, fighting with a terrifying fury that sent the enemy scrambling. A malfunction on the ship he'd stolen forced him to crash land. Fully expecting to be taken into custody he was surprised when he was hailed as a local hero, and paid generously for his services, and conscripted into service as a combat pilot through the end of the war.

When the war had ended, he returned to his life on the ground, but found it difficult to work with so much recognition. He ended up leaving his adopted home, to find work in a distant system, as a freight hauler, transporting goods from the port to various distribution centers. He might have maintained his life on the ground, until the day came that received a letter. His adopted uncle had recently passed away, and left him a ship of his own - an old sidewinder. Along with this he also received a package from his adopted parents containing his father's Imperial signet ring, along with a letter detailing how they had come to adopt him.

He set out that day to learn the truth of his past, reclaim his family name, and avenge the death of the parents he'd never known.

Since then, he has been decorated by both the Empire and the Federation, though his search has turned up very little. The attack on his parent's ship was no mere chance encounter, but rather a carefully executed plot by another family, aimed to eliminate his bloodline, but to what ends and by whom remains a mystery. He spends the majority of his time working as either a freighter pilot, hauling goods from port to port, taking in the talk and gossip of various ports, or as luxury craft pilot, carrying various dignitaries and officials to exotic locations, always keeping a keen ear on conversations for more clues as to his past.

He has been recognized by the Pilot's Federation as an Elite trader, a Deadly combatant, and Exploration Ranger. His search has taken him to a large percentage of inhabited systems, and he is said to be well connected among all the major powers in the galaxy, though he keeps his true agenda an even better guarded secret than his face.

Just a tired old pilot trying to make enough credits to pay for my daughters' weddings and to be able to retire on. Hasn't work out yet.

Indeed a very entertaining read! Repped! o7 Karlos

Personality:
Merango could be described as eccentric with a flair for the theatrical. Light of foot, especially in close quarters. He has a passion for very flamboyant attire that are handmade, from fine expensive silks, by a very select tailor. Never shies away from a fight specially to protect himself, friends, family, lovers and brothers-in-arms. Blessed not only with an eidetic memory but also a much higher than average IQ. His athletic physique is easily maintained as he regularly practices forms of hand-to-hand combat that are based on the ancient oriental styles that originated on the planet Earth in the Sol system. He is also a very passionate and accomplished Poker player.

History:
Merango’s ancestry can be traced back through millennia. Coming from regal stock he chooses to keep many aspects of his personal life a tightly held secret. Both his parents are alive and well and live their lives, well off the beaten track, in luxury they were both born into. Both parents are revered citizens who served their respective societies with distinction. Both are noted for their forthright views, their passion to enhance society and their work ethics are legendary. No small feat for Merango and his brother to follow in their footsteps.

The most notable feature about Merango is his physical appearance which is remarkably unlike anything of that of his parents. His outward appearance would be described as that of an oriental descended from the Asian continent of planet Earth in the Sol system. This is only truth in part as after many examinations and tests throughout his boyhood depicted, his appearance is due to a dormant genetic manifestation that comes to the fore every 4-6 generations, which is a trait from his maternal side of his family. This is then exacerbated by the size of his paternal family, thus, all in all making Merango and his brother stand out in most crowds, especially back in their own society for the ignorant or uninitiated.

As the boys grew into adolescents, it was very clear that they would not remain boys for very long as their bodies grew and developed at a much faster rate than the average boy. Merango and his brother, at the tender age of 14, both somehow managed to persuade their father, who subsequently was tasked with persuading their mother, to allow them to join the Imperial Navy Academy as Cadets. In order to pull this off, their father needed to call-in many favors and to also provide financial rewards to certain ‘officials’.

To the Academy they went and blazed a trail that reverberated through the region for years. Following graduation, the 2 brothers went their separate ways to continue their quest for glory and adventure, this was by means of following very different ideologies that had spawned during their time at the Academy. Before parting ways, they made a solemn vow that if either one was in any serious trouble that the other would not rest until they were side by side again facing whatever peril lay before them, as one. They have an uncanny knack of sensing each other's plight.

For the most part, Merango kept as low a profile as he could until he discovered The Tailor and Poker.

The Tailor was both myth and legend in certain corners of the galaxy in that, he could make exquisite clothing from the most delicate of threads, and he could also fashion key components of certain ships hardware that gave the ship an immediate boost in specific key areas. The Tailor subsequently passed on his unique gifts to a certain Engineer and that Engineer has never looked back since as he plies his trade from a very secret location not shared with many, and his clientele reward him handsomely.

Merango quickly became a regular customer of The Tailor which was quite evident in the way he dressed and by the ships he flew, both exorbitant for such a young man. As for Poker, a game which is yet another throwback in his life from an age gone by, it has provided Merango with the wealth and means to acquire a certain taste for unusual attire and to buy certain ships far sooner than he could only have dreamed and to have them tweaked beyond compare which has enhanced his ability to become a very formidable pilot.

As for his adopted Galactic name, Merango IV, this is a story within itself and a story that will only be shared in exceptional circumstances, or by his enemies that think they know better.

It should also be noted that Poker has made many a man very envious of Merango and so it was into deep space he set his course and there he stayed……..until now.
