This is the face of Indigo, at least the only face most of you will ever see. Rumors abound about what's under that helmet - from "Just-the-average-Joe" to "Spiders! Millions of Frelling Spiders!". Few have seen what is under this mask, and those who have do not speak of what they have seen. Indigo, a call-sign, was battle-born in the truest sense of the phrase. His father was an Imperial officer. His mother a noble of a small house. With child due at any day, his parents took their leave, so that Indigo might be born at place of some significance to them. But fate had other plans.
Just outside of Imperial space their ship was attacked by pirates. Though his father was a capable pilot in his own right, numbers were against them. While many pirate ships were destroyed, their own ship suffered catastrophic damage. His mother suffered even more catastrophic damage - cut nearly in half by an exploding bulkhead, spilling an unborn child - battle-born, onto a crumbling deck. With the ship's reactor going critical, his father managed to place the child into an escape pod, along with his Imperial signet ring, and launch the pod just seconds before the ill-fated ship was destroyed.
The pod was picked up by a deep space rescue team, and the child was adopted by a family at small colony. Despite efforts made, the signet ring could not be identified, and the child's history was all but lost. As a boy, Indigo attended school, then went on to earn several advanced degrees in electronics, aerospace mechanics, linguistics and physics. As a young man he worked on a loading dock, loading and unloading freight and cargo from ships making port at his adopted home. He never considered life among the stars, nor had any particular desire to be a pilot. But fate again conspired against him. When war came to his adopted home, he stole a ship, believed to be a Viper, and engaged the enemy. He found piloting to come naturally, and combat to be almost second nature. He shot down many enemy craft that day, fighting with a terrifying fury that sent the enemy scrambling. A malfunction on the ship he'd stolen forced him to crash land. Fully expecting to be taken into custody he was surprised when he was hailed as a local hero, and paid generously for his services, and conscripted into service as a combat pilot through the end of the war.
When the war had ended, he returned to his life on the ground, but found it difficult to work with so much recognition. He ended up leaving his adopted home, to find work in a distant system, as a freight hauler, transporting goods from the port to various distribution centers. He might have maintained his life on the ground, until the day came that received a letter. His adopted uncle had recently passed away, and left him a ship of his own - an old sidewinder. Along with this he also received a package from his adopted parents containing his father's Imperial signet ring, along with a letter detailing how they had come to adopt him.
He set out that day to learn the truth of his past, reclaim his family name, and avenge the death of the parents he'd never known.
Since then, he has been decorated by both the Empire and the Federation, though his search has turned up very little. The attack on his parent's ship was no mere chance encounter, but rather a carefully executed plot by another family, aimed to eliminate his bloodline, but to what ends and by whom remains a mystery. He spends the majority of his time working as either a freighter pilot, hauling goods from port to port, taking in the talk and gossip of various ports, or as luxury craft pilot, carrying various dignitaries and officials to exotic locations, always keeping a keen ear on conversations for more clues as to his past.
He has been recognized by the Pilot's Federation as an Elite trader, a Deadly combatant, and Exploration Ranger. His search has taken him to a large percentage of inhabited systems, and he is said to be well connected among all the major powers in the galaxy, though he keeps his true agenda an even better guarded secret than his face.
