Community Event / Creation The Face of the Deep

Hi folks!

I've been playing with a couple of video editors lately, which is obvious if you've seen any of my other stuff. Unlike some of my past videos, these will about 2-4 minutes long, with music, to make the experience more theatrical and enjoyable (and more easily digestible :) ). These are the first theatrical game videos I've made in a long time, so they're certainly not perfect. I hope to improve along the way, delivering better content over time. And the videos will differ a bit each time, some focusing on combat, some on exploration. I'm not sure at what pace I'll be making and releasing these, but I'm thinking one per week, maybe two. At the moment, I'm just making these for fun, and hopefully I'll be helping to promote the game in the process.

The second video in this series is about ready, I'm just fine tuning it now. So, expect to see it pretty soon. :)

I hope you enjoy watching these videos as much as I did making them.

The fourth video in the series and focuses on combat.

Its basically a shorter and more theatrical version of my Battle Of Banki video, which is something I've been wanting to make for a while.

Hope you all enjoy :)

Great vids man!

May I ask what video editors you use? I am looking basically to have a user friendly interface to do lots of cut and splice, add text (in scenes, titles and credits etc) and music and transition effects between scenes. Which one would you recommend (both free and/or paying)?

So far I have used the Youtube editor itself but somehow it creates lots of microstutter, so I was wondering if editing at my PC first may raise the quality of my vids a bit.

I've mostly been using something called VideoPad Video Editor, mostly because its free and extremely easy to learn. There are better free editors out there where you can do tons more stuff but I still haven't took the time to sit down and learn how they work. But Video Pad is good for a beginner and amateur like me, and serves my purposes. Just beware if you decide to use VideoPad; its kind of sloppy to use. Sometimes I get unexpected crashes trying to do something seemingly harmless, like moving a title card. No big deal, though, since it has an auto-save feature that will load the project one-step before the crash. Thankfully, I haven't lost a project and had to start over yet.

And if you see anything that resembles lag in my video, its not due to the video editor. Sometimes when I'm moving quickly past an object (like in the latest video) things will get a bit jumpy. Not sure what's causing it, but it can get bad when I try to record and swoop past objects. Might be too much for my PC.

Also, here's a list of free video editors that you might want to try out (but I wouldn't suggest Windows Movie Maker): http://www.techradar.com/us/news/so...re-9-top-programs-you-should-download-1136264

But VideoPad is pretty good for a free editor. And thanks for checking out my vids :) I'll try to get the next one out in a few days.

Sixth in the series, focuses on combat from my time in the Dibiti Civil War. I fought more Anacondas and Pythons in this battle than previously (with help from NPCs and commanders, of course). The next couple of videos are going to focus on non-combat experiences, with the next showing my first trip to Lugh during a Federation lockdown in the system (dating from the beginning of March). #8 will likely show off some more exploration, with a system that has 3 black holes (sadly I wasn't the first to discover it). Also #8 will feature post-1.2 footage with the debug camera, which I'm excited about.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for viewing :)

Seventh in the series, and I did a little something different with this installment. This one is my first attempt at narration via text, describing my first trip to Lugh during a military lockdown. If you're not a big fan of narrated videos, don't fret; I'm almost done with video #8, which is going to be primarily a cinematic experience, more like a preview or teaser of a movie.

Anyways, here's #7 The Lamentations of Lugh. I hope you enjoy :)

Eighth in the series, focuses on combat in the Lugh Civil War. This is far more cinematic that past videos I've done. Hopefully the hard work pays off and everyone enjoys it:) I've also got so much leftover footage I may go ahead and make a trilogy of my experiences in Lugh. Then again, I also have a TON of exploration footage from when I went to the Coalsack Nebula... we'll just see where things go.

As always, I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching! :D

Ninth in the series, focuses on exploration, particularly black holes. Plus, a visitor makes an unexpected visit while I'm near one of the black holes.

Enjoy :D

Added a new promotional/introduction video for the series. From Video #10 and up, this video will be used at the beginning of each episode (and maybe earlier vids if I can get around to re-editing them).

Enjoy :)

Tenth video in the series, focuses on exploration and features the Voyager Probe at the end. I went with more classical style music again, but I promise the next video will rock :) Also, like with my other videos, please forgive the laggy moments. The footage goes a little ways back when I was still playing with my graphics settings. As newer footage is used, this momentary lag will become far less frequent. Just to be clear the problem isn't Elite as much as it is my five year old computer. It was a bangin' PC back then, but it struggles to keep up now.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this video and the music.

Eleventh in the series, focuses on exploration. I experimented with some video effects, so this was one of the more enjoyable videos to make. The end is pretty cool and mesmerizing, and I think folks will really enjoy this one. Plus, I used some rock music (keeping my promise that #11 would rock), but its pretty gentle and fits the video really well, I think.

I hope you enjoy :)

Twelfth in the series, focuses on exploration. A lot of the footage used in this video was used in my video for the Elite Dangerous 2015 Competition. I know I've been focusing on exploration a lot lately, so my next couple of videos will focus on combat most likely. I have a lot of unused footage from the Lugh Civil War, but they'll be less theatrical than the other Lugh videos I made.

Also I'm going to have to release videos less frequently from now on. Instead of one or two a week, it'll be about twice a month. I want to deliver better quality videos and there's some IRL stuff that requires more of my attention. But I'll continue making these videos. I've had a lot of fun making and showcasing footage from ED. And I don't plan on stopping anytime soon :)

Anyways, here's the video and as always I hope you enjoy!

Thirteenth video in the series, focuses on combat. These next two videos are comprised of footage leftover from the Lugh Civil War. You shouldn't see any re-used footage though. Hope you enjoy :D

Also, I'm adding this one here for the sake of consistency:

Fourteenth in the series, focuses on combat, obviously. This is also the second and final part of the Lughies series. Hope you enjoy :)

Fifteenth video in the series, focuses mostly on exploration. Sorry it's been nearly a month since my last video, but I've been pretty busy lately. Hopefully I'll have the next one ready in a couple of weeks.
