The Federal Dropship - The Pilot

I can see objectively why people don’t like this ship. There are other ships that outclass the FDS in pretty much every area that matters. But I don’t care. I really do love my FDS though I can’t even explain why. It is one of my favourite looking ships in the game. I don’t think the FAS nor the FGS look as nice either. The wings on the FDS are just so much nicer, especially those straight rear wings. I also really love the cockpit and even the engine sound. I have engineered mine to the hilt and I am always looking for excuses to fly it.

I bought mine (called her the Blue Bison) during the period of time where the Palin Thargoid missions were well paying. I had this idea that having a Dropship made sense to do these ground base missions. I’d pick up a bunch of Thargoid artifacts and them haul them back to the Pleiades to earn some real good coin. I have fond memories of chewing through waves of Imperial Clippers trying to steal my cargo on the way back. Those were fun times. I was pleasantly surprised by the FDS as I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did.

If the game was more balanced and shields (esp. shield boosters) were nerfed to a reasonable level than I think this ship would have more uses. I also love the idea of an additional class 6 slot but I never see that happening sadly. I’m going to fly it anyway just because I love the aesthetic and feel of it so much.

I too love the FDS. It was a mainstay mission cargo runner of mine back on PS4. Unlike a lot of ships, it properly feels massive (ie - drift), and I enjoyed using it as a missile boat in combat situations. The one thing I don't like is those coffee makers - such silliness breaks my immersion!

Well, my alt is proudly flying one. Undeniably it looks as an Winged Flatiron - what was i thinking when i named my Dropship like that :)

During the last GC they were going for less than 8 millions in a LYR system.
Nice and decent ship as a mission runner. 144 tons of cargo is not too shaby while still running ADC and SCA or 150t full cargo.
Also a decent miner.
It can pack a punch and those military slots can be useful

No, no, no. I disagree with probably everything said in this video. To me this ship was a game changer, a step forward from Keelback. Many people complain about FDS drift, but I love the drift, after basic fa/off training you're ready to use FDS weight as an advantage in quick turns. She is also very steady in flight, not that twitchy like FASor Chieftain which is very helpful when it comes to use railguns or PA's - and yeah, four rails on FDS should give you a good firepower. FDS has very good hardpoint placement and insanely high amount of hull points. Extremely flexible loadout allowing you to try anything - including exploration (yes I did that in FDS too). Some call her a budget Python. That also makes FDS a good pirate ship - limpets, cargo racks, four packhoud pods and a large cannon :) I like that!
I'm a type of cmdr that operates in fringes of the bubble, mostly docking on outposts and FDS is my main workhorse (not big fan of Python). Short jumprange? Not bad with Guardian boosters. Currently I'm in possession of three Dropships. Cargo & collector dropship (still tough enough to survive the attack and do a jump), pvp hulltank and AX. Hail to FDS cmdrs, o7

Hm, never owned one of these. I did love the FAS however, it was sidelined because the Krait outperforms it so much.
Perhaps I should give it a try. Is it really viable in PvP? I would think it is too slow?

Actually, I can give you a pretty good idea of what that looks like.

That's the same pilot from my video Rui, in the same Dropship, in a pretty big PVP fight.

The Dropship was pretty exciting to grind and obtain...at first, anyway. After a while though, there was noticeable and annoying drift to it. It did have its charm though, like the metallic sound that made you think you were flying a rusty bucket of bolts. :) And it looked badass like all the Fed ships.

Of course the FAS was much more fun in combat with much better agility than the FDS and the FGS is what I have now because of the fighter bay.

The FDS might be a nice short trip hauler but I prefer its big brothers for aesthetics.
