The Female Player Model: The Human Chest Doesnt Do That

[sorry about the odd formatting/title, this forum blanks certain words very relevant to this discussion for some reason]

Hey, so this is something thats been bugging me pretty much as long as the female player model's been in there, but boob s do not look like that in a skintight space suit.

When I say look like "that" I mean like this

Generally under a space suit you would wear a sports bra. "Comfortable, practical, supportive" Those 3 adjectives do not match the above image.

"but" I hear you cry "but this isnt a regular spacesuit! this is a skin tight space suit!"

A "skin tight" spacesuit, also known as a space activity suit or mechanical counterpressure suit, avoids skin bruising in low pressure by applying elastic pressure to the skin, and only actually pressurising the head/face area where air is needed for more than just its pressure. A space activity suit must be tailored to its spesific user to apply pressure to all of their skin, and for more complex areas such as around the breast s, some shaping pieces within the suit may be required. However, this does not make the wearer look like frickin Major, it if anything makes the whole chest area appear more uniformly shaped and reduces the appearance of boob s. We know this because these space suits actually exist and people with breast s have worn them. Compare this image of someone wearing MIT's "biosuit" (a modern mechanical counterpressure suit prototype) to the earlier image of the ingame model

Doesnt that just look so sensible? The unrealistic (and if I put my cynical goggles on pretty sexualised) model currently used is laughable when held up to the real thing.

So what I'm requesting would be giving the female player model a little rework (it's been in there a while!) maybe more heavily referencing real world suits and practical breast support in the design this time round.

(Also to be honest if you *are* doing a rework, men's and women's bodies in real life really aren't that different! The current models are far ends of the spectrum of folks, so maybe a little realism could do well on both sides, and while I'm at it, it would be cool to have a third player model thats more ambiguous gender-wise with access to both pools of haircuts etc. but I realise its far fetched to ask for a whole new model, I'm just tagging these on)

It's about time we brought these player models into the 31st century.

YES! I mean, yes, I do wholeheartedly agree. It's kinda ridiculous, it looks just... wrong. I mean, look at it:

Wait, I think you didn't get my point. LOOK:

I know, it's not priority right now with 2.4 craziness going on, but still, there is something very, very wrong with that model.

I cannot tell you anything that hasn't been said by ChrissyFridge

, but she made a strong enough point so that I really don't have to add something. I mean, we all have seen women with sportsbra or something actually skin-tight at some point (and if you haven't, it's called Google ;)) and the ingame model is just ridiculous in comparison.

.......... by applying elastic pressure to the skin, and only actually pressurising the head/face area where air is needed for more than just its pressure. .......
......... it if anything makes the whole chest area appear more uniformly shaped and reduces the appearance of boob s. ..............

First off, may I just say that as a male I obviously have no practical experience. Secondly, I am pleased that we at least don't have the "over emphasised" chesticles so prevalent in sci-fi.

I do wonder though, if the soft tissues involved were indeed continuously exposed to "elastic pressure" giving a "more uniformly shaped" " whole chest area" then wouldn't that impair circulation within those tissues and lead to medical issues? I had always assumed that was why a "shaped" or moulded structure was used.

As I said, I have no experience in this, just raising an issue which occurred to me and which could be complete nonsense.

Well yes, it looks more like the suit is moulded to that shape, so didn't look especially odd to me. Though the attached image also looks great, you can actually see body form and still be functional.

Here's some nice radiation resistant space wear for ladies.

That's no space suit my dude, that is an StemRad Astrorad radiation protection vest. This radiation protection garment would be fitted to each wearer individually in practical applications, and worn in situations in which astronauts would not be wearing IVA pressure suits. The ingame model however depicts a pressure suit, examples of which I've already shown. Suits such as these would have radiation protective materials integrated into the design, and as such no vest would be required, least of all a weird looking one like that.
