the feul scoop question(and more questions on exploring)

So, i have an ASP. Currently i got it outfitted totally for trading, 112 tonnes i can carry. I am collecting credits, of course, to get back to exploring again(got 6 million from my last expedition and the ASP cost all that so i had some trading to do).

Alright, now i got an advanced scanner and a detailed surface scanner reinstalled without loosing on my cargo capacity so could keep on trading. Now though, i am ready to head out again, got 2 million credits to install new equipment.

My frameshift drive is decent(C rating), 20 ly jumps is good enough for me and a better one costs 1.5 million easily. I got heat sink, a powerplant thats big enough(D rating) and good power distribution(C rating). Those are no problem.

Question though: What kind of fuel scoop should i get?

I have 1 compartment of class 6 free, 1 of class 5 and 3 of class 3... One of them needs to hold my shield generator. Currently i have one in class 3, which is kinda low but i might manage if i don't run into trouble, plus i don't want to spend too much on it. However, is it smart to get a low rating class 6 feul scoop in there? Or should i just go for a class 5 feul scoop? I want to spend about 500,000 credits max on it, which gives me about .50 t/s scoop on class six but only .41t/s at class five. Which should i get? Last one i had was .38 t/s which was not that bad but a better one is my goal to do more exploring in less time.

What about extra fuel tanks? I currently got a 32 fuel tank installed(standard) but i'd like more. Class 3 or do i install a big one in the clas 6 compartment? See when i can scoop quickly and i have huge fuel capaciy i can do a lot of exploring in very short time. But do i spend all my money on that? Should i get more money?

Any advice is appreciated.

I still do not see a need for an extra fuel tank. The circumstances when you need one must be extraordinarily rare.

In essence, get the best scoop you can afford, because they scoop faster.

The best scoop suggestion is really good. You want to spend much of your time traveling and scanning, not sitting in front of a star for your scoop to finish.

a class 6 D fuelscoop for 500 k CR will fill your asp fueltank as fast as a 5A for 9 million credits. so - get a class 6 fuelscoop, the best you can afford.

a class 2 A powerplant costs the same as a 5D, and has better heat management, and you should be able to run your setup with it.

great exploring ship, the Asp! enjoy!

(that said - if you can stand the need before going out agai a little longer, a 5A fsd is of course great.... have a look into rare good trading, the Asp is a perfect ship for this: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=63119)

i took your powerplant advice by heart and got one with better heat management.

I also went for the best fuel scoop, now i can scoop .50t/s and i hope its fast enough for my 64 fuel capacity as i coldn't help myself getting more fuel so i don't have to scoop often. All wish me luck, i'm off on to the stars and beyond!

Nope, i can't wait at all... I must explore explore explore. Where are those planets at? :D. Beside with my new loadout a can go 26 ly per jump so its even better than i thought!

You can also put your load out in coriolis.io. That's pretty nifty when you want to experiment with various configurations and see how it will affect your jump, whether your power plant will be sufficient, etc.

I have an Asp configured for exploration in addition to my Python. It can do 33 Ly jumps if I remember. I'll try to post the coriolis link later when I get home.

Here is my Asp: http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/04A4D...i2f.Iw18WQ==.Aw18WQ==?bn=Laurent ASP Explorer

OP, you may want to rethink your FSD.
You don't need an A spec FSD to bump around the galaxy, but having an A spec with 35Ly range will help greatly if you decide on a whim you want to return to inhabited space (aka the bubble) quickly.

First thing: Get an a-rated FSD.

You won't need the extra fuel tank, but if you can afford it, go for an 6A scoop.
You should also fit an AFMU

A good FSD that gives you a good jump is also useful if you find yourself in a sparse area of space, where the stars are fewer and farther from each others.

When it comes to fuel scoops its the bigger the better - to a point. It does not always have to be A grade. A 32t fuel tank is plenty enough, never needed a bigger one. But if possible I would always go for the best FSD.

I also wonder, have you maybe considered trying the DBX? He is a good alternative for exploring when the Money is a bit short on the Asp Build.
