Elite / Frontier The FFE Art Page...a History of the Elite Games

Greetings,

I received a PM asking me to promote my website for the Elite games in the 80s - 90s so here it is if anyone is interested. I never changed the 90s look and feel of the site as it accurately reflects what the games looked like back then with a few embellishments. Long ago before there was an ED forum it was one of the few websites listed in the Frontier Developments links page. Now it is more about nostalgia and the history of the games versus not having any direct support for Elite Dangerous. There are many more websites that do that very well!

Still here it is if one seeks more knowledge about all the Elite games ever released and will enhance your knowledge and appreciation of Elite Dangerous and how we have come so far! All the games are there with the details. Some of the links still actually work! I keep paying for this site solely for the fans of the Elite games and really don't care about getting hits or if one wants to even bother looking at it. It was all about the love of the game and wanting to share. That is why it is still online.

I welcome others who like me took the time to create a website for their love of the game and post their links in this thread if it is still online. Never mind that the links don't work. It is all about our passion and love for the game. We were a community long before the Internet came of age.

Regards to all and fly safe!

I actually like the Elite: Dangerous orange. But this green? It is an abomination which, like the Imperials, needs to be eradicated.

I agree with your color choices and also love ED orange. As for eradicating those in the Empire try your best. I own all the Imperial ships and convert the Federal versions with white tactical paintjobs more fitting for Empire use with an Asling Duval decal displayed! I and others in the Empire space are waiting for you in Open...But this is going off subject per the thread. Let's work on that.

I love how this site is absolutely optimised for 90s internet. With advise on how to listen to sound rather than automate it, to prevent bandwith usage. Very cool! I remember an old HTML guide from the 90s which recomended not using graphics unless absolutely required, total flashback. An updated version elsewhere wouldnt hurt, but keep this as is. Its like an internet museum! :D

Definitely agree that @Hoolah should keep this as it is but do an alternative update too. :)

Hi George. It's fantastic that you still run your website, which pre-dates mine by some distance. I remember in particular downloading your guides to hacking FFE, before Buffet came along and made the process so much easier! :D

Like you, I've pulled back from covering Elite Dangerous, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, there are many fine sites out there dealing with all aspects of the new game and relatively few still around for Elite, FE2 and FFE. Secondly, I still prefer FFE, though I do take my Asp out for a spin every so often in ED.

Of course, it's entirely up to you whether you keep your site retro or spend a bit of time updating it. Mine's pretty awful because my HTML coding was hopeless when I first started out and isn't that much better now! I keep toying with the idea of bringing out a mobile version too, but Real Life™ always takes up a lot of my time, as well as helping AndyJ bugfix his brilliant FFED3DAJ.

Great to hear from you though. Keep the flag flying for FFE! [yesnod]

Thanks for all the positive replies. The site creation tools are on the Awards page. "Netscape" should bring back some memories! Enjoy.

Thanks Steve for adding your excellent Frontier Astro link (It still works with a few others on the FFE links page). Great to hear from you as well. It's only been 20 plus years to finally get to Elite 4!
