The first Galactic Summit was just held - you can watch it now

Well, "now" might be a bit pre-emptive because at the time of writing it's still in processing at YouTube ;)

A summary of the event and the outcome of the voting can be seen at http://galnetnews.com/galactic-summit/

Thanks to all the attendees and the live audience for the questions.

psst, if you're really desperate to watch right now before the YouTube version is done processing, check out http://www.twitch.tv/galnet_news/v/5137138

Everyone can conclude that AEDC rocks. Obviously. :D

Great job to all the people that were affiliated to the setup and the execution.

That was awesome. Given the detailed list of participants and topics, it would be nice for non participants to have a transcript actually :p any chance? :D

Edit: NVM I saw the poll charts etc.

Ok watched most of it, really interesting and fun. The guy managing the debate has got THE voice you want xD. Fun jokes, good roleplay, had me discover the main player-groups of the game.

However, Imo, answers need to be quicker, and questions more pertinent (third question: "is declaring war withtout a 24h notice an act of war?" :D). 2hours is a bit long for most commanders.

In any case, thanks to the people who worked on that. Looking forward to next debate.

Above all? Fun

Long answer: http://galnetnews.com/galactic-summit/

Player goups jockeying for position in Powerplay.

Don't you mean 'fun' for player-run groups who want to express their opinions as to how player factions want to see the game progress to suit them (in relation to the 5 topics voted on)? That's all I can see in relation to the topic summaries - in particular topics 2 and 3. Hosted by an unofficial group, seemingly skewed towards what player-run groups want (ie open to player factions that have existed for at least 30 days). What was the representation from players who are not affiliated with a particular player faction? Who represented such players in relation to the 5 topics? That is, the outcome of your statistics is not representative of the entire Pilot's Federation membership and biased towards those who participated ie 'guilds' only (and I'd wager a lot of us didn't even know it was occurring and in any event it looks like it was deliberately designed to exclude those NOT in such an external guild). I'm sure someone will say the event was open to all based on the first line of text on the linked page but goes on to clearly state who it was open to later in the text (ie factions aka guilds). I have no doubt it was a great event for those who like that sort of gameplay, but by basically excluding most of the playerbase, it's just another unrepresentative biased 'poll' like all the other unrepresentative, biased polls we get......
.
Now, if this had been a Frontier-led activity, it wouldn't have restricted participation simply to player factions/guilds of greater than 30 days for a start, would have been advertised to the entire playerbase (thereby obtaining individual player opinion on the topics rather than that based on faction philosophy) and everyone would have been able to participate instead of getting another poll skewed by the wishes of only a subset of the overall playerbase. Ergo it would have a lot more credibility in my eyes. I'm actually somewhat offended that this has been promoted as a 'Galactic Summit', implying authoritative representation of all of the Pilot's Federation (when in fact it's not) and in my eyes attempting to usurp Frontier's position on the direction of such topics yet it seemingly ignores the bulk of the membership of the Pilot's Federation (ie the non-player-faction/guild aligned pilots). I'm pretty sure the opinion of non-guild aligned players on topics 2 and 3 in particular would be very different to that expressed by guild-focused players for a start. Would have much more credibility if this were based on individual player votes across the bulk of the playerbase rather than simply the 'guilds'.

That was hilariously inane. But whatever makes them smile, I suppose ;-) Although I would like to point out that, should any of you folks actually belong to these factions...send your representatives to a public speaking class. Yes, Neb is a "grammar ".

I don't think Frontier devs are dumb, they will read the results of that debate, and interprate them as what most player-groups want; not as what every player wants. I don't belong to any group for the moment, and I am happy to see things like that happen.

If you are refering to the 3 french guys that were there, I also disagree. I thought it was great that they were there to represent their groups.
Of course, some of them had really bad english and were reading made up sentences; but if the whole galaxy was speaking french, I'd love to see you go have a try at an all french interactive debate :)

None. Because that wasn't what this was about.

95% of Galnet News come from player groups or FD. Every single pilot can voice their opinion on the forums, and are happy to do so.
So no, as this was a player group summit, there weren't single pilots.

But maybe you want to create a player group "Alliance of independent pilots" that is devoted to single pilots doing their own thing? And attend the next summit?

In the future you should have each group issue a timed opening statement where they can state their position on each topic under vote. When casting the vote stick to a straight one word "yes, no, abstain". End the program with each party given a brief opportunity for a closing statement.

the problem is other for that debate ;)

Yay, just what we don't need - more government. Luckily there's 400 billion systems out there, 99% of which will have nothing to do with this.
