The first scenario I ever encountered... is bugged.

I'm ingame now and just tried visiting an unauthorized installation for the first time (Ironhill Crest in Eravarenth). Apparently there's supposed to be some message in my comms panel and cool audio, but all I see is ships attacking this installation, and when I try to help, I'm met with invulnerable turrets. Just going to leave.

Pretty disappointing.

I think you need to use the data link scanner to ping the installation.
Then you should get a list of generators or controllers you can mess with which turn things off.

I think.

They also have cargo hatches you can disable by doing something with a generator or something.

Only then can you hatchbreak it and expect to get away.

I was planning to try one soon ish. Not got round to it yet so not 100% certain.

But yes, the game is definitely cracked in places.

Oh yes, I did use the data link scanner. Usually, I've found, you're supposed to wait some time for a message in your comms panel informing you that the area is under attack and you can decide to aid the attack, or hinder it. Here, the attack began but I received no message, so I could not take part properly.

In my experience, the scenarios are all supposed to start with some kind of comm's message which requires you to open the comm's HUD and "select" one of the options - agree to help or disagree, help one side or the other etc.

I've had one of those "get our stuff back for us" missions that appear in TL1 Combat Aftermath USSs fail to give me any text.
The irritating thing was, it caused the "unread message" marker to light up and it stayed that way for days.
In fact, I think it only reset after one of the small patches.

Went to one. Got the message - "please defend us from pirates". Three pirates spawn. One of them spawns inside the installation geometry. Not in the tunnels, actually inside what is supposed to be solid metal. It sits there rotating a bit but otherwise can't move. A cloud of friendly NPCs gather around it, bumping their noses gently against the bulkheads, trying to path their way inside, forever.
