The freagle!

Up until this point in time I've always been too scared to get into combat with anything but a fully upgraded ship, and due to the wipes I never really had the time or motivation to grind away until I could upgrade my ship, I just did the combat tutorials and left it at that... Anyway, facing another wipe I thought 'sod-it' to myself and let myself get interdicted every time an NPC locked on to me, 'let's see just how rubbish this cheap and nasty Freagle is,' I thought, whilst a heavily armed NPC viper opened fire on me... Well cheap, definitely, but much to my surprise, I found that the stock Freagle with absolutely no upgrades whatsoever is an intensely brilliant dogfighter, was able to dispatch literally everything I came up against... Okay, I ran away from a Federation Dropship because it looked scary, but apart from that... Amazing, zippy little thing that handles beautifully well, most of my kills came without even getting a single hit on my hull... It allowed me to run rings around pirates... Love, love, love this ship.

OMG! No! I sold my FREAGLE without trying it just due to negativity about it on the forums lol! Now I'm gonna have to work up to one again!!

Nice.

To be honest, i'm avoid combat, but there again, my commander is a coward, who will always choose flight over fight. Maybe after launch i will keep different profiles, once combat oriented, the other combat averse.

Been in since premium beta and never flew the Eagle. Took mine for a spin yesterday (no upgrades). Loved it! So maneuverable!

I actually sold my half-upgraded Asp on Thursday to buy and fully upgrade an Eagle and Viper (never really used either before). Did not really like the viper (was not good enough to justify heat/power/range issues for me) but loved the eagle.

What I really like is how cheap it is to upgrade (including decent armour).

A pair of multi cannon on the bottom and a beam laser up top and you shred most pirates :).

So far it is my favourite shop for combat (up to and including asp )

I took mine for a brief spin and loved it. Then I sold it for trading capital - but I did put a big tick in the "Got to get another one of those" box.
:D

why does people call it a Freagle? I picked up the free eagle went out for a whiz its a nice little ship I am not very good with the standard lazers that comes with it but managed to to take a few ships out even thou my aiming is bad with fixed weapons took me a while and managed to take a Viper out with a little police help - I think I will keep this little ship and practice some more

So,..... Do not take any rant about ship/game/devs/FD/others opinions too seriously!

Get out there, and make your own experiences........

I have put one beam, 2cannons on the eagle at Beta,..... Predator.

Eagles are good ships these days - cheap to outfit, great to fly, my only gripes are the speed and there's not enough space to fit the full range of exploring gear you need.

It's not really meant as an exploring ship, but it's a very handy fighter. People say the hull is fragile but I never noticed that. I flew one for a long time in Beta with 2 burst lasers and a multi-cannon (all gimballed, I'm bad at aiming fixed weapons) and it was highly effective. Upgrades were reasonable (and easy to find!).

I think I would pimp out an eagle to be a fighter only - The cobra was my main explore ship in Beta 3 and made a ton money too

The Eagle is lots of fun - I find that once I get behind someone, they have a hard time shaking me off, the only bummer was that the canons seemed to be toned done a few notches in the last Beta, so I found that it took a lot more to kill enemy ships. Still, it's fun, looking forward to getting in to mine once I'm back in the game.

I think it also has potential as a smuggler (for light hauls), It's so nimble, and quick that I could usually dock from crazy angles of attack at pretty much full boost - never needed to go cold, as I was in and docking before they could scan...

Z...

Who gets the Freagle? I only backed for the game and nothing else, and was not expecting a Freagle, but i guess i got one, as i see it in my ship overview in the station hangar.

Oh well i guess i'll just selfdestruct it, i prefere the 100CR and a sidewinder start, not a 32K CR start.

Who gets the Freagle?

Everyone who pre-ordered the game. It's included in the Mercenary Edition, which is part of every pre-order.

40K ;)

Eagle is a great ship. You don't need to sacrifice damage output by downgrading to gimballed weapons because it has great handling. Couple that with upgraded thrusters and it's even better. Only problem is outfitting it. While Eagle upgrades are pretty cheap, anything other than power couplers or scanners need stupid amounts of luck to find. You NEED a power plant upgrade and a FSD upgrade to even make it remotely viable.
