The Fuel Scoop - Will Sol Be Under Siege In 100 days?

not a chance. they will never attack the wider bubble. Too many that have no interest in the goids would leave the game in droves if core gameplay is disrupted and the devs know that. Y'all need to dial your expectations back a whole hell of a lot.

I'm pretty sure the 'end state' for the Thargoids will be similar to the original game.
A persistant but rare encounter that can happen pretty much anywhere.

Just outta curiosity but isnt sol a mostly Fed system? So apart from some misguided sentimental reason, why would an Imp help them?

Im not huge into the role play, although Im getting there but that thought just occurred to me as the most obvious. So does someone wanna correct me and set me straight about why sol is in any way relevant to a non fed? The loss of life is hardly a concern considering we are already at war and life is cheap in this universe...the thargoids are threatening to do the very thing we are trying to do to them.

So I ask again...why should I help sol when my loyalty lies with the empire? Would they help us if the thargoids were on our doorstep? Food fer thought ^

As a feddy myself who doesnt like imp scum.. i rather see goids die than my fellow humans.

Oh no !!!!! The Thargoids have hacked Galnet!!!

Nothing new about that:

Galnet are Thargoids.

Each attack brings them closer to the bubble. What do you think is going to happen when they're right at our doorstep? That they'll just... stop? That would be pretty anticlimactic. There are dozens of thousands of stations in the bubble, we can afford to let a few burn.

If the attacks continue at the current rate, the point at which we'd really have to be concerned about things is far beyond the life expectancy of anyone reading the forums, unless you happen to be a recently hatched giant tortoise or a Greenland shark.

We might get upset if they start blockading systems, rather than just leaving stations damaged, denying us access In that context, I'm surprised they haven't done more in Merope. (But maybe the story line is following the AEGIS and research theme.)

A Chief Thargoid issuing permits for entry to a system would be fun. The reception for that by a fleet of human ships would deal with it nicely. :D

Maybe you haven't been following the news very closely. They're getting close, and fast.

Been saying it since before the Thargoids showed up. Every station that's been UA bombed is likely on their target list. That includes Sol. Thargoid attacks against mega-ships carrying UAs demonstrate that this is likely the case. The bigger question is, will UA bombing Sol's stations expedite the Thargoid push into the bubble? It might be worth testing out.... for science!

PS: When they hit 49 Arietis, that'll basically confirm it. That was one of the first stations to be shut-down via UA bombing. They're getting really close.

There are about 67,000 stations in the bubble at the current rate of attacks (2-3 a week) that gives us around 20,000 weeks or roughly 384 years until the last station is gone

Ah, okay. I didn't realize the point "at which we'd really have to be concerned about things" was the point at which literally every station in the bubble is destroyed. Personally, I'd be concerned quite a bit before that if a few high-profile stations were hit. It's also pretty likely that they're going to start attacking more than two stations per week, if they do hit the bubble.

If it was strictly 2 stations a week the figure for complete loss of all station would then be well over 600 years. I would be extremely surprised if anyone was still playing ED 600 years from now. The rate of attacks may change, but the current trend is a slow down in attacks. If we go up to 10 attacks a week it's still going to take more than a century to take down all of the stations. Even at 100 stations attacked a week it would take more than a decade before everything is lost.

Right. I don't think anyone is worried about every single station being lost.

To be fair, I don't expect a full scale invasion of the bubble.

I DO expect hyperdictions by scout class vessels similar in many ways to the original interaction with the Thargoids in '84

Looking at the galaxy map, it seems more like the 'goids are headed for the Guardian Ruins (specifically, Hyades Sector DR-V C2-23) rather than Sol.

Wonder what will happen when they arrive at the first Guardian Ruins site along their path?

Player agency and continuity in this game feels like a bad joke we tell ourselves to get some sleep at night. Basically, it only seems to matter to us for our own reasons.

I avoid the ranks in the game for both the Empire and the Federation. I'm an independent Commander of the Pilots Federation.
