The Future of Rank

I've read a few posts that say rank above tier 12 is useless. Does anyone really know if this is always going to be the case? Not just gossip and speculation, but something factual?

I'm a few missions from making full Admiral. I always take cheap donation missions when available. Am I totally wasting my time (and money) trying to top off my rank, with the hope it will become valuable in the future?

Maybe you will need the Admiral rank to adquire a Frigate or Destroyer in the future ships. If you have to be REAR ADMIRAL to command a simple Corvette (IRL the rank is POST COMMANDER or CORVETTE CAPTAIN), I dont want to see the rank for the bigger ones!.

When you die, your remains are buried at the Admiral's Quarters part of the cemetery (right next to the pauper's graves, for all the rank above R. Admiral is worth ATM).[yesnod]

I'm at 47% for full Admiral, I'm not going out of my way to finish any time soon unless there's a compelling reason to do so.
