The Galnet News Thread

I personnaly like the way FD "misinterpreted" the french coalition, i would call it "sensationalism" and it s good for the game's dynamic ;)

All that sensationalism brought a blatant lack of respect from the community and FD towards my effort to bring life in the game.

I think it's great that Galnet publish issues like this. Whether they are true or not doesn't really matter, it makes the game seem alive & player actions are actively affecting the universe we play in. Not many games offer this kind of immersion.

External view to see the decal on your own hull at least would be nice. Just sayin'

And faction decals should be on every Authority ship affiliated with the faction, too.

The only problem, which an earlier draft of my earlier post made clearer, is that it was a somewhat xenophobic way to illicit a response from the community .. OK as an experiment, maybe .. but I'd rather see conflict engineered (if that was the point) from an in-game faction basis, rather than via a mechanic that tries to create twenty first century divides. What I did like about the GalNet post, was it gave players an opportunity to decide how to behave in group-think.

Let's can the anti-French stuff, ridiculous Monty Python quotes, pointless images etc.

If you want to discuss the Lave situation, feel free.

Its stuff like this thats makes me want to get enough money for an explorer asp and disappear off to the other side of the galaxy and pretend I've never heard of humanity

Wonder if we can get to the next galaxy over and start again?

As the assaults continue, let me remind you that I am looking for the finest fighters, and it must be reminded that even if your ship is in peril you must brush it off as a flesh wound while in Lave. No Fighter shall leave without completely being defeated or victory is won.

Haaa!

I think this is fantastic.

Firstly (and most importantly), racism of any sort has no place here or anywhere. Them being French should have nothing to do with anything and if you see it otherwise then you really should reconsider many aspects of your personality.

With that out of the way, I can see why CMDR Athera is disgruntled about this, but I still consider it to be a brilliant development. Guys, think about it for a moment: A group of players introduced a circumstance into the game we all play and love (albeit prematurely and unwillingly, due to them coordinating on the forums rather than privately..Something for everyone to consider for the next occurrences) and now out of seemingly nowhere we have players who are pretending to be a part of the instigating group while others seek to defend their beloved Lave...Isn't that just awesome?! It's just like real life!

This little thing has escalated amazingly and been transmitted to a large portion of the player base. As a pirate, I've decided to remain neutral, at least until it begins to affect my "market". The Pirate Confederacy Of The Void has discussed the French Revolution and we've decided not to interfere, at least until the dust has settled. The fact that such a simple thing has become so complex is amazing to me, and the Galnet getting the story so wrong just added to that in a very positive manner in my opinion.

Obviously, for Commander Athera and his/her companions it's a huge misrepresentation of their intentions, which sucks...but I for one cannot wait to see the Galnet follow-up story. Will they admit their blunder? Will they continue to drive the events and label these people terrorists to be condemned? All very exciting for us neutrals out there who may choose to support any of the sides involved, be it the oppressed and misrepresented French group, the pretender terrorists who just want chaos and anarchy, or the noble resistance of Lave.

Super super fun.

This is merely a ploy by separatists in the local Lave region to prevent access of the starport and NavBeacon.
Our spies have indicated that this is what they've deemed Codename: Black Knight. They appear to have blocked off all sorts of communication in the local region of the system: LAVE. Our intel indicates that any ship caught entering system LAVE, will be dealt with some entity codenamed: KNIGHT. He appears to be an incredible and unmatched pilot within the system. Even near close encounters, his canopy shattered and even thrusters malfunctioning, he can still manage to beat even the finest of pilots. Pilots in the proximity of the system LAVE are to proceed with caution.

Just to rain on your parade, I would remind you that bigotry is bigotry, regardless of whether it is based upon gender, class, skin colour, country of origin, or Species. Replace any offending racist term with "Thargoid(s)" and see if it belongs in the Elite universe or not ^^;

The more I think about bigotry, the more I end up thinking we might be hardwired for it. We always boil conflicts down to "us vs them" and we always (without fail) end up creating / using derogatory terms for the "them". Cats (Wing Commander), bugs (Starship Troopers), clanker, toaster (both BSG), I'm sure you can come up with any number yourself staying just in science fiction.

We're so fighty as a species because apparently we deliberately antagonise everyone at the slightest provocation

Players from both sides took a post on the French forums and started a war waving their country flags. Sadly, players already started to fight in lave and calling themselves the coalition. Those players do not belong to our group and by their actions corrupt our initial goal.

For the record: I am not in Lave so have no personal experience of what is happening right now. But based on the above it would seem there are French-speaking people, joined together, starting a war in Lave, calling themselves the Coalition. I also gather, if I understand you correctly, that you represent a different coalition of French-speaking players, based in Lave, who do not currently want a war but may have considered it in the future. Is that correct? Because if so I don't understand what is wrong with the news report. They are just not talking about your French-speaking Lave based coalition, but a different one. And if you do not represent this group that is actually fighting, why should they contact you?

Isn't it a case of just discussing with your members whether it may be sensible to not be based in Lave (which I guess would be sensible for every group of players!), moving to a new home that you can truly call your own and be done with it? The war-mongerers in Lave will be targeted by the Lave-defenders, and you and your group will be perfectly fine and dandy.

BREAKING NEWS! War chants of liberation can be heard through the system. As it turns out, you can hear them scream in space. Screaming of Liberty. Here's what we heard:

Do you hear the pilots sing?
Singing the song of angry Feds?
It is the music of a system,
who will not be dreds again!
When the beating of your lock-ons
Echoes the beating of the beams
there is a system about to start
when pilots come!

Will you join in our
coalition?
who will be strong and stand with us?
Beyond the Nav beacons
Is there trades you long to see?

Then join in the fight
that will give you the right to space trade in peace!

Do you hear the pilots sing?
Singing the song of angry Feds?
It is the music of a system,
who will not be dreds again!
When the beating of your lock-ons
Echoes the beating of the beams
there is a system about to start
when pilots come!

Will you give it all you can
So that our flagships may advance?
Some will fall and some will thrive
Will you stand up and take your chance
The blood of the vipers
will water the planets of Lave!

Do you hear the pilots sing?
Singing the song of angry Feds?
It is the music of a system,
who will not be dreds again!
When the beating of your lock-ons
Echoes the beating of the beams
there is a system about to start
when pilots come!
