That's a symptom of the lack of persistent universe - with the events manually injected it becomes like a tabletop RPG with a game master.
However here we have 400 billion systems which is a great achievement but keeping the storyline up manually in this vast emptiness is impossible.
That's where ED is failing for me. No matter what I do or don't do, the universe's response is not coherent. Hard to blaze a trail but I can go with the wind which is blowing from anywhere the game master thinks of. It's also a way to play (grass is growing like that) but I see no perspective and challenge it that.
