The game has some scaling

Hello all,

Yesterday I had the 401 bug, and reset my character (too much beta playing :) ) Being a Kickstarter backer, I started with the Independent Trader option (basically an unupgraded Cobra + free Freagle).

Started in an area of space I know nothing about, on the borders of Fed with a little Empire down in the Z axis, lots of systems my ship knew nothing about. Great times. So to begin with I did a little low profit trading based on economies with my 18 ton Cobra. Got some courage up took an "get X" mission, which needed extraction - took me to an unexplored (from my point of view) 20K population extraction system, during exploing I made 60K in Bounties, almost doubling what Ihad in the bank. Wow I thought get the money, show some live in Outfitting to the Freagle - I will be a millionaire in no time.

So took the Freagke there, the Asps and Cobras I have been seeing were replaced by Sidewinders and Eagles, much lower Bounties.

There is clearly different encoutners for different ships, I think the ship rather than the ship value or combat rating of the pilot may play too bigger part.

Has anyone else (whilst the servers are down) got any observations on the scaling of the game?

Simon

I've seen this as well. Exploring with an Adder you get chased around by Eagles and Sidwinders for the first 500LY or so. Last night exploring with an Asp I was facing Vipers, Cobras and a Clipper!

I have found when I jumped in to the same area, with the same ship, that the NPC's seemed to cycle. Jump in and out a few times and you'll see what I mean

I am heading back there after the server upgrade - I will give this a go, was going to swap to the Cobra - but I will go back with the Eagle- hey I have no money everything is profit :)

I think that what you encounter in Extraction Zones may be scaled to the ship you are flying but also sometimes I encounter lots of Sideys and Cobras, sometimes Anacondas, sometimes there's hardly anything, sometimes it's really crowded - and that's all in the same Extraction Zone, separate visits on the same night/day.

Makes sense really.

Good player with well kitted out Cobra or above is going to decimate low level "trash" and become boring quickly.

RES sites are not scaled to the ship you fly, or your rank. That would imply this is not a trade sim (Thats a stretch even, common now)

What it is, is that you have a few "Sets" of possible NPCs per cycle. Sidewinders, Cobras, Asp and Adders(Recent addition) and Anacondas. When more players pool into the same instance, previously those sets would stack.

Now not so much. It made too much and was too enjoyable to do, so Frontier nerfed it.

In an Anarchy system I hunted in with an Asp it threw out the usual selections; haulers, eagles, vipers, sideys, asps, cobras, clipper, python, T9 on occasion. What i did notice was that the smaller ships tended to have Dangerous/ Deadly/ Elite rankings more than the larger ones (I'm Competent at the moment) and they weren't particularly 'deadly' at that. I've not been to many RES sites so can't comment on that one.

I was in a RES in an Eagle last night, it was actually the closest thing I've ever seen to the cinematic trailer, multiple fights going on all around me and an endless stream of wanted Cobras coming in. Made over 300K in bounties before I ran out of MC ammo
