Newcomer / Intro The game is disappointing.

If you are looking to buy this game I would like to dissuade you from doing so. Ill start by sharing my experience as a new player to the masses. So I begin the game in a system with no idea what to do or where to go. The quests are not achievable nor are they worth doing imo. There is no communication any where in the galaxy and in my time playing Ive met one person. The cockpit view gets suffocating at times and there is no external view. I have yet to get a good look at my ships. The super cruise system takes way to long to get something done and begins to to be more a hassle than immersion. I disagree with the fact that they promote solo play in a multiplier environment. The way the game is set up now is pretty boring if you ask me. There is no large scale warfare or mining ships needed to be protected. If you are looking for a game where you can have huge fleets and dictate space or pirate players entering a simple system then this is not it. Not worth 20 bucks if you ask me. Dont get me wrong thought the game has potential but will the game reach that potential before star citizen? Doubtable.

It's a bit of a Marmite experience, also it can grow on you given time. Some people aren't prepared to let the game grow on them and I can respect that, it's not finished, not anywhere near finished, but I can't find a better spacey, flying space laser beam explosion thingy :)

Like i said it has potential but I do not think it will beat star citizen. The idea of running around bored in space is not appealing. If they were to implement a global chat or something and clans and the ability to move alot more instead of one fixed area the game would be as good as eve if not better. That is just my opinion though.

YOU MISS ONE massive point

SC is not even a realeasable game yet.... ED is expanding and playable

Did you have a real problem that we can help you with... lots of help available here for Newbies :)

If you want a view of your ship... use the de-bug camera... you have to set a key bind for it... the default is CTRL + ALT + SPACE

No thanks you though. Ive called my bank and a dispute is in progress. Its a waste of money atm but before I left I figured I would share my opinion with potential buyers.

You do realise that there is an external view?
Conflict zones are fairly large scale warfare?
RES's hold plenty of mining ships being poached by pirates?
The while point is no-one tells you what to do or where to go?

I'm sorry you can't achieve the simple objectives of the missions, you do not have the patience to spend a couple of minute travelling between object millions of miles apart, can't do some thing other people seem to have no trouble with and disagree with a major plus point of the game.

It sounds like the game is not for you. Wait 18 months and be prepared to be disappointed that Star Citizen is not exactly what you wanted either.

In my opinion those are terrible ideas although they do appeal to some people. That's why people have made games like Eve and Star Citizen. If that is the game you want you should probably buy one of them instead. I don't want it to be that type of game.

BTW there is an external view and you can get a good view of your ships.

Very well said. I'm not having a go at the OP when I say quite a few online gamers may be more used to games that "spoon feed" scripted content to them and they just aren't used to going out and finding things to do. There's nothing wrong with that but they always blame the game because they sit there, baffled, and have no idea what to do or where to go until the game presents them with something. There's an element of this in Eve Online too, where people seem baffled by the absence of the sci-fi equivalent of "kill 10 wolves and bring the skins back" missions.

The profession I work in pays a great deal of attention to the phrase "due diligence". Any sort of cursory examination of the information available about ED would have alerted the OP to the fact that ED in its current form is limited to space flight, is not Star Citizen, also large ship battles are not possible because its P2P based and that the opportunity to exists to switch at will between solo and multiplayer. Given these features are all deal breakers for the OP, had I been in the same situation I would have not purchased ED.

May I take this opportunity to recommend to the OP Star Citizen and while waiting for that game Eve: Online as offering the features the OP is looking for.

Altough... starting EVE Online this late into the game release means he will be swallowed up like a very very small fish very quickly

There are plenty of other games out there. Maybe one of them is more suited to your tastes.

As Andyraptor said, if you're struggling with a mission or any part of the game, asking a question here will get you either a deluge of good answers or one or two excellent ones, all within a couple of hours.

Have fun and fly safe, whichever game you settle on.

Well while I do appreciate all of the suggestions and points brought up in the thread I also do not know how I am to enjoy a game that has nothing appealing to me. With that said I have contacted Frontier about a refund being as nice as possible. Seeing as they told me they could not refund me I have opened a dispute. I was under the impression the game was going to be more multiplayer than it is in its current state. Thanks again though for the effort to keep it civil. I wish I had the chance to get more involved with the community before now due to the fact It might have made my purchase worth it. Sadly I did not.

Not every game is for everyone. While the game itself tends to drop you into the void and push you into space, there is a great deal of information you can gain by reading these forums. Play a bit, check out the forums, play, rinse repeat etc etc. Then you will get the hang of it.

Or not. Not every game is for everyone. Perhaps this one just isn't for you.

As for getting a refund, I have no idea what FDEVs policy is on that. For me, when I have purchased a game and not liked it I just moved on. But.. shrug.... good luck with your claim.

@WishYouWould - Multiplayer is available - you just have to head to the part of the galaxy where its at. Starter positions are varied and some are more populated than others. If you have friends then you can Wing up and play as a Wing. One of the issues with this game is the fact there are 400 billion systems with currently 400000 players most of whom will not be on line at any one time, so the player density is quite low.

So you don't like it, OK.

I do think you misunderstood what Elite is though. You want EVE. Elite is always going to be one ship and what you do with it.

so WHY do you think every one should listen too you.

People play games for many reasons and this game is not for you but it is for thousands of others.

Oh, so you've bought a game you don't like and are trying to get your bank to get your money back, good luck with that one...

"beat"...?

I didn't realise it was in direct competition, didn't even think there was a competition..

Personally, I love ED, greatly enjoying the ongoing expansions and enhancements and will be playing ED for many years to come.. and also cannot wait for Star Citizen to be released.

I'm just chuffed we are now starting to see a resurgence of the space sim genre... it's all good :)
