The Gnosis defender

So, after looking on the web for information on where the Canonn mega ship, Gnosis, was in the galaxy, I stumbled across a thread where people were storing ship parts on the mega ship as glorified bookmarks for when the ship moved.

I, ever the crazy genius, realized I could go one step further. To store a ship on the Gnosis, to follow it on its voyage. While I was at it, why not make it a combat ship to protect the Gnosis. We know the galaxy to be a dangerous place. The ship's name, The Defender.

Sadly, I'm no ship expert, and I may have skimped on budget. I haven't done the build yet, but I've done the design part. I just need advice on if she is combat worthy, for the sake of realism. If not, it'd be nice if you could post your own ideas or improvements to this one, thanks.

So, without further delay, what your thoughts?

Can you store ships on the Gnosis? I'll have to check out the build later :D

I think so. Don't quote me on that, I just think I read it somewhere. Ask someone smarter than me ;). Even if you have other things to do, I'd be grateful if you shared this thread to people thanks. The more brains, the more brain power, and the higher chances of making a good ship design.

I'm pretty sure there was no shipyard on the Gnosis when I visited.

Is the ship intended to actually do much fighting, or is it more of a roleplay thing? It could be improved quite a bit (or replaced with a more capable small pad combat ship), but if it's just for RP I'd say it's fine.

It's more of an RP ship, but it should theoretically be able to be used in combat, even if only against small ships. However, I'd prefer the final design to be as cheap as possible, I'm not made of money (yet).

What happens if you dock with the Gnosis and don't log on again until it moves? Perhaps a way to move with it!

When Jaques last moved, all ships were kicked out. Assuming there's outfitting, you could store a module to 'track' it. However, both it and storing ships may be risky if Frontier elect to (or can't, or choose not to, to stop people tracking) modules or ships. This means ships will be kicked out, and modules may vanish or dumped someplace else.

If you simply want to track, take an E rated class 1 optional module (eg cargo rack) and store it. You won't be able to store a ship (or recall/ buy another) unless there is a shipyard.

I'm no Sidey expert so there's likely still room for improvement, but here's my shot at a combat Sidey within your original budget. Hybrid tank since you probably wouldn't be able to bank under fire before the shields dropped anyway. Swapped the lasers for cannons because 20 piercing is punishingly low. If I were you I would give it a try with rails to make the most of class 1 hardpoints, but I'm not sure how well a Sidey handles heat.

Adding enhanced performance thrusters would be a huge advantage for evasion, but they would also quadruple the cost. Engineering the 2As would help as well of course.

There is no ship yard on the gnosis, sorry.
However, we have been told that unlike Jacques, any ships docked during its movement (probably Thursday downtime) will move with it. As normal, let's wait till it happens (not until 2.4 earliest) to confirm.

Do megaships appear in the system map? Haven't played for a while unfortunately, they would need to appear in the gal/sys map for a bookmark to work.

Yes, I have been to one (who's name escapes me) and I'm sure I just clicked on the system map and SC'd over to it.

I get your idea, but I should have probably mentioned I had a fuel scoop to increase combat range from the main ship. Say if the main threat was located quite far away (well, at least over 30lys away), I'd need to be able to refuel to get back to the mother ship, or be able to go hunting. Thematically at least.

What about an Eagle? I can't remember my Sidey, I gave her up pretty quick for an Adder a long while ago

I was being cheap as possible, but if an eagle or something bigger seemed worth it, I'd think about it. Max budget is probably 2 mil however, maybe extra if I like the design, and as I'm lazy, no engineers.

Yeah, I kind of figured you wouldn't want to go pure combat on a largely RP ship. Just thought I'd throw a combat build out there in case it helped in finding a happy medium.

Oh no pure combat is fine, but their are different ways of doing it, like your build is a hull tank, whereas I began with trying to make an agility fighter, with good range.

In my response to you I explained also to someone else I can make a more expensive ship if needs be, which doesn't have to be a sidewinder, if that helps. I'll reiterate the 2 mil or there about max budget however, don't want to go overboard.
